“Bryce, what exactly do you mean by that? Are you saying you don’t trust me? Just because of something Riley said before she left?” Bella’s voice was sharp, laced with a potent mix of hurt and indignation. Her eyes sparkled with unshed tears, the anger barely masking the vulnerability beneath.

“Bella, please, let me explain. I’m just trying to understand what really happened back then,” Bryce replied, urgency threading through his tone as he searched her face for understanding.

“What happened back then is crystal clear. I pulled you from the river, Bryce. I literally saved your life. The ambulance came, and you were taken to the hospital where you received immediate care.
