**TITLE: Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox**
**Chapter 95: Bury It With Them**
Wren’s expression suddenly drained of color, her heart racing as she caught sight of Sebastian weaving through the crowd.
Clad in a somber black suit, he stood out among the mourners, his demeanor grave, his eyes locked onto Riley with an intensity that sent a chill down Wren’s spine.
Why is he here? The question spiraled in her mind, a cacophony of confusion and disbelief.
Is he really attending Riley’s parents’ funeral too? But what could possibly motivate him to show up? It defied logic!
Sebastian was notorious for his indifference to life’s fleeting moments. As far as Wren was aware, he had only attended two funerals in his entire life: his mother’s and his grandfather’s. Beyond those rare occasions, he had brushed aside the deaths of others with a casual disregard that baffled her.
Now, witnessing him standing there, it struck her like a lightning bolt. Did this mean that Riley’s parents held a significance in his heart that equaled that of his own mother and grandfather?
Wren’s fists clenched tightly at her sides, her gaze burning with a new layer of resentment directed at Riley.
At this moment, Riley was making her way toward the soldiers, urns cradled delicately in her arms.
As she approached, the soldiers snapped to attention, saluting the urns in unison—a powerful gesture of respect for the fallen heroes they honored.
The vibrant American flag, draped over the urns, fluttered gently in the breeze, a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made for their country.
Then, the stirring notes of the national anthem began to resonate through the air.
Riley felt her throat tighten, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. The anthem’s powerful melody filled the space, echoing across Carmel like a tribute to her parents’ unwavering dedication.
For the peace and prosperity they had fought to protect, her parents had been willing to lay down everything, including their lives.
As the last notes faded, a city official approached Riley, his voice solemn and sincere. “We are profoundly sorry for your loss. Your parents were exemplary patriots. Both the country and the city of Carmel will forever remember their bravery.”
Riley glanced down at the urns cradled in her arms, a bittersweet smile forming on her lips. She knew the nation honored her parents, which was why so many had worked tirelessly to ensure their ashes were returned home.
Today, they would finally be laid to rest in Carmel, fulfilling a wish they had held dear.
“Let’s take your parents to the Martyrs’ Cemetery,” the official suggested gently.
Riley nodded, the weight of the moment settling heavily on her shoulders as she carefully placed her parents’ urns into the car.
Accompanying her were her parents’ old comrades, who had traveled from afar to pay their respects, along with Vince and Lara.
Just as Riley settled into the car, adjusting her grip on the urns, she caught a glimpse of Sebastian through the window.
