Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 277

Before Camilla could even get a word in, Davina’s eyes went wide. Her voice climbed to a sharp pitch. “Eight million just to meet you? Do you really think your time is made of gold or something?”

She snorted, her words dripping with disbelief. “Since when is that even a rule? You must be out of your mind if you think you can scam money like this. Seriously, if you keep this up, don’t think I won’t call the cops on you. Ever heard of extortion?”

Davina stepped forward, putting herself directly between Calvin and Camilla. She glared straight at Camilla, but at the same time couldn’t resist glancing at Calvin, as if she wanted him to notice how bravely she was “defending” him.

Camilla didn’t bother looking at Davina. She just kept her gaze on Calvin. “Mr. Carter, don’t you think it’s time to ask the peanut gallery to stay quiet while we talk business? Or are you saying a contract with your name on it means less than a couple of cheap accusations from your daughter-in-law?”

Her words dripped with mockery. Calvin’s head felt like it might burst. It was like all the blood in his body was stuck somewhere, making it hard to even breathe right. He shot Davina a furious glance, willing her to shut her mouth before she embarrassed him even more.

It was already bad enough, having his ex-daughter-in-law standing there. If his current one kept running her mouth, he’d never live it down.

But Davina completely missed the signal. She straightened her back, puffed herself up, hands on her hips like she was ready to start a street brawl. “Who’s making anything up here? Don’t you dare try to intimidate my father-in-law. Just because he’s too decent to argue with you doesn’t mean I’ll let you walk all over him. Your dog mauled Barnard and that’s a fact. Just wait. Animal Control will be here soon, and your mutt’s getting put down.”

Calvin’s patience was already thin, his eyes fixed on Davina, but she didn’t even notice. She kept right on, her voice picking up steam. “As for this so-called contract, why would Dad even sign something that ridiculous? He’s not an idiot. So stop trying to scare us with your nonsense.”

Being called an idiot by Davina almost made Calvin’s blood boil. He was furious and trapped, not knowing whether to yell or walk away. Then Camilla let out a small laugh. That tiny sound made Calvin want to crawl under a rock.

Trying to keep what was left of his dignity, Calvin said stiffly, “Let’s talk somewhere else.”

He honestly felt like if he spent even one more minute in the same room as Davina, he’d pop a blood vessel.

This woman was something else. Not only was she unbelievably clueless, but she also acted like hiding her stupidity was pointless. It was like she wanted everyone to see just how dumb she could get.

Apart from being easy to push around, Calvin couldn’t find a single good thing to say about her.

“Dad, let me come with you. I know you don’t want to argue with her. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back. If she says one more word, I’ll stick up for you,” Davina blurted, clearly dying to prove herself. She patted her chest, eyes practically glowing with calculation.
