Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 324

Davina’s family just wouldn’t let it go. They kept going on and on about how perfect Barnard was, tossing around insults and calling Camilla shameless. According to them, she was pathetic for still thinking about her ex after the divorce.

Lance finally snapped. He stepped closer to Camilla, pulling her into his arms like he wanted everyone to know she was his. He stared the family down, not even bothering to hide his anger. “What is wrong with you people? Are you that clueless? I’m right here, flesh and blood. Tell me, what do I possibly lack compared to Barnard? Camilla would have to be out of her mind to chase after someone as low as him.”

His words were sharp and didn’t spare their feelings, but it worked. Every eye swung over, locked on him.

Even if they didn’t recognize luxury brands, just looking at Lance made it obvious he was no ordinary guy. There was something untouchable about him that made them hesitate. Still, someone in the group refused to back down. “So what? Maybe you’ve got some money and power, but there’s no shortage of greedy women in this world. How do you know Camilla isn’t just playing both sides? Barnard left his wedding for her, didn’t he? We just want answers.”

It was the classic blame-the-victim routine. The truth was, Camilla never even knew Barnard had ditched the wedding, but here she was getting blamed like it was all her fault.

Lance’s jaw tightened and the veins in his arm stood out like he was one second from storming over and confronting the woman who spoke. Camilla slipped her hand into his, holding him back. “Let it go, Lance. People like them are better handled by the police and the law.”

Lance’s icy glare swept over the group. The aunt who’d been shouting the loudest suddenly shrank back, falling quiet under his gaze. With their leader silenced, the rest of Davina’s family lost their nerve and the room finally quieted down.

A few moments later, Mahoney arrived with a couple of officers in tow. The sight of so many relatives all crammed together made his head hurt. If he wasn’t mistaken, this exact group had just been picked up by Davina from the police station a few hours earlier, and now they were right back at it.

Camilla didn’t waste time. “Mahoney, these people broke into my company and publicly insulted me. I’ll be having my lawyer press charges. For now, could you please take them away?”

Mahoney groaned inwardly, thinking about how his station felt less like a police office and more like a marketplace every time these people showed up. Still, he gave the order and had everyone escorted out.

He lingered for a moment, leaning close to speak quietly to Camilla. “They trespassed. You’ve got enough for a detention charge. If your lawyer is good, they might even get some real time for this.”

His voice was so quiet she could barely catch every word. As soon as he finished, he slipped away, almost like he hadn’t said anything at all.

Camilla understood exactly what he meant. She'd grown up around the law, thanks to her dad being a police officer. If things hadn’t gone wrong back then, maybe she’d be wearing a badge herself.
