The Carter family wedding had already turned into a total disaster, and now everyone online was obsessed with it. Any little hint of news about the wedding was instantly everywhere.

Some people were dragging Camilla for not moving on, saying it was pathetic to still be caught up with her ex after the divorce. Others started roasting Barnard, calling him out for jumping between a new girlfriend and an old flame. Most of the talk, though, was about how the Carter wedding was a complete joke. Of course, mixed in with all the chatter were some truly nasty comments about Camilla, the kind that made it obvious someone was out to stir up trouble.

Camilla saw all of this, and after what happened with Davina’s family, it wasn’t hard to guess who was behind the mess. She didn’t waste any time. The second she saw the chaos online, she called her lawyer—the one handling the whole Davina situation—and had him collect evidence from the worst online trolls to add to the lawsuit. This, too, would end up pinned on Davina.

After everything that went down with Barnard, Camilla had almost gotten used to all the rumors and gossip. More and more, the mean stuff strangers posted online barely made a dent in her mood.

That morning, she finished breakfast, got ready for work, and headed out to the office like usual. Right at the building entrance, she ran into Sarah, who she hadn’t seen for a few days.

Sarah looked seriously worried, her brow all scrunched up. She rushed over to Camilla and grabbed her hand. “Camilla, are you okay? I was so mad when I saw those posts online. Seriously, how can people be that mean? There’s no rule against seeing your ex after a divorce. Why do they have to go after you over something so dumb?”

On the surface, it sounded like Sarah was defending her, but underneath, every word seemed to highlight Camilla’s supposed involvement with her ex.

Camilla pulled her hand away, her reply clipped and a bit cold. “Sarah, did you come here for something?”

Sarah hesitated. “I just saw all that stuff online and got worried. I wanted to check on you. But, Camilla, you’re acting so distant… are you still mad at me?”

She reached out again, trying to tug on Camilla’s sleeve, but Camilla stepped back. “I wouldn’t say I’m mad. It’s just… I don’t think we’re all that close, Sarah.”

Sarah’s hand stopped mid-air. She took a little step back, but kept her concerned tone. “Those people are talking nonsense. Has it messed things up with you and Lance? Camilla, I totally believe you. If Lance is upset, I could even talk to him for you.”

Camilla raised an eyebrow and watched Sarah, almost amused. “Is that why you’re here? What makes you think Lance would care about any of this?”
