Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1946

That afternoon.

After wrapping up her work at the casino, Coralie managed to ditch Odom and took a cab to the hospital alone.

"Twenty-two weeks now," Dr. Zigmund said gently, gliding the ultrasound wand smoothly over her belly. "The little one is quite mischievous today, hiding their face behind their tiny hands."

Coralie glanced at the monitor and, sure enough, saw a tiny silhouette floating in the amniotic fluid, wriggling around like a little fish.

"Isn't it just adorable?" The doctor smiled warmly. "Oh? The hands just moved. The facial profile is very clear now. Can you tell if the baby looks more like mom or dad?"

Coralie stared intently at the screen, finally reaching a definitive conclusion.

Hmph.

The nose and eyes were identical to Channing's. She was basically just the delivery vessel.

"Looks like me."

Coralie pursed her lips, offering a pleasant, utterly convincing smile.

"Uh."

The doctor blanked for a split second before recovering her smile. "Indeed, very strong resemblance to you. Going to be an absolutely beautiful baby."

"Right?"

Coralie looked away, closed her eyes, and tried to picture the baby.

But as she imagined those features, Channing's face kept surfacing, growing sharper and clearer in her mind.

...

The checkup finished smoothly.

The baby was perfectly healthy.

The doctor noted that Coralie had been eating better this month, as all her health indicators had improved significantly.

"Yeah."

Coralie nodded slightly. Odom's talent for taking care of people really was second to none.

Previously, her overwhelming worry about Channing had kept her anxious and irritable.

But now that she was getting regular updates that he was safe, and her morning sickness had vanished, her appetite had roared back to life.

"Since you've decided to keep the baby, try not to stress too much about things," the doctor advised with a gentle smile. "As for the child's father..."

"There is no father."

Coralie lowered her gaze, pressing her lips together as she said quietly, "I can take perfectly good care of this baby on my own."

"That's wonderful to hear."

Seeing her reluctance to share, the doctor didn't press the issue. She simply went over some standard pregnancy advice before respectfully walking Coralie out of the consultation room.
