Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1065

James stopped for a moment, his chest still rising and falling fast. He glanced down at Emmy, who had completely melted beneath him. Her hair was a mess on the pillow, her soft face flushed deep red, and her eyes looked dreamy, glazed with tears that made her even more irresistible.

James swallowed hard, trying to calm the fire still burning inside him. He bent down, gently kissing away the tear at the corner of her eye.

“It’s over, you should rest now.”

Emmy was so worn out she couldn’t even lift a finger. She let out a soft whimper, her voice still thick with leftover desire, and to James it sounded like another invitation. He rolled to her side, stretched out his arm, and pulled her tight against his chest.

“If you’re tired, just sleep for a bit. I’ll wake you up later.”

He nuzzled her hair, his hand sliding along her smooth back, helping her catch her breath. Emmy snuggled closer, finding the perfect spot in his embrace, but shook her head.

“I’m not tired.”

Her voice was barely there, but her arms clung stubbornly to his waist. Her body was exhausted, but her heart refused to let go. She just wanted to hold him a little longer.

James kissed her forehead, tucked his chin against her hair, and stayed quiet for a few seconds before finally speaking.

“Emmy, there’s something I need to tell you.”

Emmy looked up at him, her eyes still shining with tears.

“What is it?”

James met her gaze, his fingers gently tracing her cheek.

“After I take you to the airport tomorrow, I have to head out to the border that evening.”

“It’s way out in the mountains, and the signal’s pretty bad. I’m telling you now, so if I can’t contact you for a day or two, you won’t worry or overthink.”

Emmy frowned, confused.

“Why are you going to the border?”

James saw the concern in her eyes and couldn’t bear to tell her everything. The truth was, this trip wasn’t just about wiping out the last of a drug ring. He’d also have to deal with a ruthless gang running a black market in live organs. It was more dangerous than anything he’d faced before. He forced a smile, trying to keep it light.

“Just some leftover business for the military. Old loose ends, nothing more. It’s classified.”

“But I don’t know exactly when I’ll be back. If you can’t reach me, don’t panic. I’ll have a satellite phone. As soon as I get a chance, I’ll send you a message to let you know I’m okay.”

Hearing him say it wasn’t dangerous finally eased Emmy’s nerves a little, but she still felt uneasy. She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her face to his chest.

“Promise me you’ll be careful. Come back safe, don’t you dare get hurt. Please take care of yourself.”

James stroked her back, his chin resting on her hair. He answered softly.

“Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing.”

The room went quiet, just their breathing and the occasional wind outside the window. The moment felt warm and safe, but there was a bittersweet ache underneath, knowing they would soon have to part.

Both of them drifted into their thoughts. James was thinking about the chaos waiting at the border. Emmy’s mind wandered to a chubby, adorable little face. After a moment, she lifted her head and looked at him.

“Hey, why don’t we get up early and go see Dolly?”

“I want to see her one more time before I leave.”
