Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1066

James’s hand paused on her back. The last time, things had gone so wrong that he still couldn’t shake it off. He didn’t even have to think before turning her down.

“No. We’ll talk about it once your memory’s really back.”

Emmy got desperate. She pushed herself up, holding three fingers in the air like she was making a solemn oath.

“I promise I won’t let my imagination run wild. I won’t get all emotional. I just want to hold the baby, I swear, that’s all.”

James looked helpless, but he was firm. He couldn’t back down on this.

“This isn’t up for discussion.”

When that didn’t work, Emmy bit her lower lip, her eyes bright and pleading. She looped her arms around his and gave it a little shake.

“Honey…”

She drew out the word, her voice soft and syrupy, so sweet it was almost dizzying.

“Please? Just for a minute. Take me to see the baby, I’m begging you, honey…”

It hit him like a truck. That one word, the way she said it, made his reason just snap. The sound rolled through him, heating his blood, setting something off that he couldn’t control. His breathing went rough, and his eyes darkened with something wild and deep.

“Emmy, do you realize how dangerous it is to call me that right now?”

Before she could say anything, he was already up. He grabbed a bathrobe, threw it on, and headed straight for the door.

“I’m going to see what’s taking that stupid robot so long.”

No sooner had he spoken than a chime sounded from outside.

“Dear guest,” the robot announced, “your rush delivery has arrived. Please retrieve your items.”

James yanked the door open. On the tray sat two big, unopened boxes of condoms. The largest size, and the thinnest kind.

He grabbed them, shut the door, and strode back to the bed. The boxes hit the nightstand, and then he was over her, his body heavy and insistent.

“I’m sorry, Emmy.” His voice was quiet as he worked. “Next time, I’ll be gentle.”

Emmy shot him a glare.

“Men and their promises. You said that last time, too.”

James knew she was right, so he just let her scold him, his hands even softer as he finished.

When he was done, he checked the time. It was almost time to go. Emmy tried to get up, but as soon as her feet touched the floor, her legs gave out completely. She nearly fell, but James caught her and swept her up into his arms.

From the hotel room, through the elevator, across the lobby, and all the way to the car, James carried her. He didn’t let her feet touch the ground once.

In the car, Emmy sneaked a glance at Penny in the passenger seat. Penny stared straight ahead, her face blank, giving no sign she’d noticed a thing. Emmy finally relaxed a little.

The car sped off, headed straight for the private airport just outside the city.
