“You know, Mercedes? The international superstar?” Krystina sounded like she could barely contain herself.

Emmy had just stepped into her dorm room, keys still in hand. She paused mid-step, one shoe half off, when she heard the name.

“Wait, Mercedes is here? On Emerald Island?”

“Yeah, she is!” Krystina was practically bouncing. “She’s even more gorgeous in real life, and so classy too.”

“I heard she’s doing a major ad campaign with Janus Sphere Technologies. She came all this way just to film a global promo at the AI Eco-Park.”

“All the younger staff at our company are obsessed with her. The second they saw her, everyone was scrambling for autographs.”

“And get this, Mercedes isn’t stuck up at all. She signed everything, and even had lunch in the same restaurant as us.”

“I still can’t believe it. You’ve been working with someone that famous and didn’t say a word. What a huge surprise for everyone.”

This team-building trip was officially a collaboration between Starlight Corporation and Janus Sphere Technologies at the Emerald Island resort in Fiji. But only Krystina and Danny knew it was also Emmy’s turf.

Janus Sphere Technologies was based here, and the island was home to Fiji’s largest AI Eco-Park. The thing was, after that shootout more than half a year ago, a lot of the infrastructure was trashed. The park still hadn’t reopened to the public. Only a small section was being used for joint projects, just enough to cover some of the losses.

So when Mercedes showed up out of nowhere, it wasn’t just the Starlight team who lost their minds. Even Krystina couldn’t resist joining the crowd for a selfie.

The woman was a legend. She’d fought her way up from nothing to Hollywood stardom. Krystina even posted the selfie online.

But Emmy had been so swamped, she hadn’t even opened her social feeds in ages.

She only really processed it now, after hearing Krystina’s story. “Are you sure it was Mercedes filming the promo?”

“Totally sure!” Krystina said right away. “I even asked around. Apparently, it’s to build hype for the grand opening at the end of the year.”

Krystina paused, voice turning a little uncertain. “Wait. Don’t tell me you didn’t know about this?”

Emmy went quiet.

She really didn’t know.

She used to check in with the Janus Sphere execs on video calls to handle things, but lately she’d been drowning in work. The company was running smoothly, so the meetings had been on hold for a while.

“And when she does, it’s as a global ambassador for a top luxury brand. Her fee starts at eight figures.”

Krystina whistled. “How much did you guys have to pay her? Can Janus Sphere even afford that?”

Emmy didn’t answer. After a little more small talk, she hung up.

She didn’t head for the shower like usual after her run. Instead, she picked up her phone and dialed again.

“Mr. Lincoln?”

A crisp, polished British accent answered, respectful and perfectly on point.

It was Rupert Voss, the CEO of Janus Sphere Technologies. Harvard MBA, Silicon Valley unicorn veteran, a top-tier professional—James somehow managed to recruit him.

Emmy didn’t waste time. She switched to flawless English.

“The promo Mercedes is filming at the resort… was that arranged by Mr. Nelson?”
