The military hospital was chaos.
Emmy had been there all day, but the stream of wounded soldiers only kept growing. In the past few hours, it felt like everything had gone from bad to worse.
Outside, the helipad never got quiet. Helicopter blades thundered overhead, bringing in wave after wave of casualties, each flight a gamble between life and death.
Inside, the air was thick with tension. Gurneys rattled across the floors, voices called out orders or names, and nurses and doctors rushed by so quickly Emmy could hardly keep track. It was suffocating.
She lingered at the entrance to the emergency hall, watching as a group of special forces soldiers were carried in. Their uniforms, once camo, were caked with dried blood and mud until you could barely tell what color they used to be.
One guy, who looked a little less beat up than the rest, stood leaning against the wall. He was smoking, his hand shaking even as he tried to look tough. Emmy knew that kind of trembling. It was the adrenaline finally wearing off.
She curled her fingers into her palms, took a steadying breath, and walked over.
“Excuse me,” she said quietly. “Can you tell me what’s going on at the front?”
He glanced at her, and for a moment his eyes barely flicked up. Then he noticed her face. Maybe he saw how worried she looked. He let out a slow puff of smoke, his voice rough and tired, but he still answered.
“The main force is pulling out,” he said. “It got bad. Real bad. Those guys on the other side, they were maniacs. Every one of them fought like they didn’t care if they lived or died.”
He paused, then nodded. “But we got their leader. Took out their base, too.”
There was something in his eyes, a mix of respect and fear. He shook his head and said, almost to himself, “Honestly, if it wasn’t for the Dragonscale team… We would’ve never made it. Those guys went first, tore open a path. Without them, none of us would’ve come out of that jungle alive.”
Emmy’s heart squeezed tight.
She forgot about manners or how she must have looked. “What about the Dragonscale team? Are they out? Did they make it?”
He hesitated, but the worry on her face must have gotten to him. He dropped his cigarette, crushed it out, and said, “They’re still covering the retreat. But by now, they should be pulling out, too.”

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....
CHAPTER 1220 HAS NO WORDING JUST THE CHAPTER NUMBER...
Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
