James kept his eyes on the old red brick building, his gaze so deep it felt like he could see straight through time.
He reached out, shielding Emmy from the sharp wind. His voice was calm and low.
“We had closed-off, military-style training. I got my diploma at fifteen.”
“After that, I was sent to the border. I never got a chance to go back to school.”
“When I turned twenty-two, I took over Nelson Corporation and stepped into the real world.”
The wind howled around them, making his coat snap and billow.
As Emmy listened, her heart ached.
She knew James as the commanding officer. The boss everyone feared. The legend in uniform.
But behind all that glory was a boy who never got to be ordinary. He never had a real youth.
She couldn’t help but step into his arms and look up at him.
“How about… when you have time, you come take a class with me?”
James looked down, meeting her eyes.
There was so much tenderness in her expression, it reached right into his deepest regrets and soothed them.
He swallowed and gave the softest “Okay.”
A cold gust ripped past. Emmy ducked her head, shivering.
James frowned a little, then opened his big black cashmere coat and wrapped her completely inside it.
The warmth of his body chased away the cold immediately.
Just as Emmy was about to say something, she noticed James looking down at her. His dark eyes were focused on her lips. His voice was rough and husky.
“Baby, can I kiss you?”
Emmy froze for a second.
Since when was he so polite?
Usually, he wouldn’t ask. He’d just pull her close and kiss her like he owned the world.
James wanted to do just that. But he was trying to be gentle. Emmy had been down lately, and the tension between them had only just begun to thaw. He didn’t want to push too hard, not here.
And this place…
This was where she’d lived, the kind of ivory tower he envied.
On top of this clock tower, looking out over Boston, he wanted to make at least one good memory with her.
Seeing how hard he was holding back, Emmy’s heart softened even more.
She could guess what he was thinking.

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....
CHAPTER 1220 HAS NO WORDING JUST THE CHAPTER NUMBER...
Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
