Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 922

James arched an eyebrow, a cold, unimpressed smile tugging at his lips.

“Those guys are Middle Eastern terrorists. Dean isn’t powerful enough to control a group like that.”

He paused, then added, “But he did give away my location.”

Emmy’s eyes widened. She dropped her gaze, guilt weighing heavy on her shoulders.

“I’m sorry... I had no idea he’d put you in that much danger. If I’d known, I—”

James lifted a hand, stopping her mid-sentence. “You don’t have to apologize for him.”

“You’re not his anything. You don’t owe him.”

“In fact, you’re the one who’s suffered most in all this.”

His hands tightened into fists on his knees. Just hearing Dean’s name set something dark flickering in his eyes, like he was holding back a storm. The whole room seemed to freeze, the air turning icy as that dangerous energy filled the space.

“I’ll make sure he pays for what he’s done.”

Emmy shrank back from the sudden intensity in his voice. The gentle, patient man she knew was gone, replaced by someone fierce and almost frightening. Instinctively, she pulled the blanket up over half her face, peeking out with just her eyes showing.

“I... I think I’ll try to sleep for a bit...”

James snapped out of it. He looked embarrassed for letting his anger show. He took a steadying breath, forcing himself to relax. His features softened, and his voice dropped to something gentle again.

“Sorry about that. You get some rest, okay? I’ll leave you alone.”

Backing his wheelchair away, he added, “If you need anything, I’m right next door. There’s a button by your bed — just press it, and I’ll hear.”

Emmy let out a muffled “Mm.” She watched him wheel himself out and close the door softly behind him. Only then did the heavy tension in the room fade away. Emmy let out a long sigh and flopped back onto the bed.

She stared up at the fancy chandelier, her thoughts wandering aimlessly. Her mind felt empty and full at the same time. It was weird, like her body was here but her mind was floating somewhere far away.

Eventually, she snapped out of it and glanced at the digital clock. Over an hour had passed.
