Chapter 10 Nerissa’s Strength

‘Toppling the Calloway Group? Saving Kinsbeat Game from collapse? Rising to the top? Winning the Celestial Dome Awards?’ Clive thought to himself.

Clive looked at Nerissa, a bit helpless. “Nerissa, you’re young, but your tone is quite bold.”

‘How old is she? She looks no older than seventeen or eighteen. What could she possibly understand? At her age, she probably can’t even make sense of a simple financial report; Clive mused silently.

Nerissa just smiled faintly. “Mr. Beaumont, your company is already on the brink. If you don’t inject fresh blood and launch a new game soon, bankruptcy is inevitable.

“Are you really willing to watch the company you’ve worked so hard to build be defeated by the Calloway Group?”

That last sentence hit right where it hurt.

Kinsbeat Game was Clive’s lifelong passion. He had even registered it before graduating.

He had once believed Kinsbeat Game would be a shining milestone in gaming history, but now it was facing premature death.

Clive felt almost suffocated by despair.

“I may be young, but Mr. Beaumont, did you forget you were just twenty when you founded Kinsbeat Game?” Nerissa pulled out her passport and gently placed it on the table. “My name’s Nerissa. I’m nineteen.”

Clive looked up again, carefully studying the girl sitting before him.

Though she looked young, Nerissa’s presence was remarkable, her demeanor refined, her speech confident, not like an ordinary girl.

He had to admit, Nerissa reminded him of himself at that age.

Back then, he had been full of ambition.

Still, Clive remained wary, narrowing his eyes. “Why should I trust you?”

Nerissa tapped the table with her fingers. “Mr. Beaumont, is there anything left that I’d want to lie about?

“Instead of sitting back and waiting to be completely replaced by the Calloway Group, why not fight to take the lead? Partner with me, and I can offer you a lifeline. If you refuse, all you have left is bankruptcy.”

Talking to a smart person, sometimes a few words were enough.

After a long moment, Clive looked up at Nerissa. “Do you know anything about games?”

Nerissa didn’t answer directly. Instead, she said, “Give me the computer.”

Without hesitation, Clive handed over his laptop.

Nerissa took it, opened the screen, and immediately started working.

Her fingers flew over the keyboard.

But Clive, sitting opposite her, had no idea what she was doing.

About fifteen minutes later, Nerissa handed the laptop back. “This is my sincerity.”

Clive took the laptop, and his eyes went wide.

He hadn’t expected Nerissa to build a small game program in just fifteen minutes, and the game was actually pretty engaging, though the levels were few.

‘Looks like Nerissa really is something, he thought.

Only then did Clive realize he hadn’t told Nerissa the laptop’s password when he gave it to her.

That meant the fifteen minutes included the time she took to unlock it.

Clive was also a computer user; his password and firewall weren’t simple.

Yet Nerissa had cracked his password in no time.

She was a genius.

Clive’s previously defeated expression instantly brightened. There’s always a way out, he thought.

But he didn’t let excitement cloud his judgmen Successfully unlocked! helping me?”

“There are two reasons,” Nerissa didn’t like to keep secrets. First, have a grudge against the Calloway family, so I want to take down the Calloway Group. Second, I want to become rich.”

“Ms. Jamison, welcome to Kinsbeat Game,” Clive said, standing up and extending his hand.

Nerissa shook it. “Looking forward to working together.”

“Likewise,” Clive said. “Ms. Jamison, I’m truly glad you’re joining Kinsbeat Garne, but our current challenges aren’t just about losing talent. There’s also-”

“Funding shortages?” Nerissa finished his sentence.

Clive’s face fell.

No matter how unwilling he was to admit it, he had to accept the truth.

“Yes,” Clive said.

Nerissa smiled lightly, “That’s simple. I’ll solve your funding problem within ten days. But I have one condition.”

“What condition?” Clive asked immediately.

Nerissa didn’t beat around the bush. “I want fifty percent ownership of Kinsbeat Game.”

“Deal. No problem.” Clive agreed without hesitation.

Nerissa was a rare talent, and she could solve Kinsbeat Game’s financial crisis.

As long as she could get Kinsbeat back on its feet, Clive would agree unconditionally, even if she asked for sixty percent. “Mr. Beaumont, you’re straightforward,” Nerissa said with a smile.

Clive continued, “Ms. Jamison, do you have time to come to the company with me now? Let’s sign the contract right away.” “Sure.” Nerissa nodded slightly.

Clive had driven there. After leaving the café, he politely opened the rear car door for Nerissa.

He looked less like a company boss and more like Nerissa’s chauffeur.

The company wasn’t far from the café, about a fifteen-minute drive.

After signing the contract, Clive personally saw Nerissa off.

She stopped outside the company building. “You can leave me here.

“I’ll send you the new plan and script tonight. We aim to launch your AAA game within a month and win the Celestial Dome Awards.”

“Alright.” Clive nodded, hope shining in his eyes.

Nerissa added, “Also, I’ll need ten assistants.”

Clive said, “That’s easy. I’ll have them add you on WhatsApp later. Just notify them there if you need anything.”

“Okay,” Nerissa replied.

After leaving the Kinsbeat Game office, Nerissa went to the electronics market. She needed to buy a reliable laptop.

She checked many shops before finding the right one, though some parts would require her to assemble and upgrade it herself.

The next day was Monday.

Owen woke up early, preparing to go to City Hall to file divorce papers with Nerissa.

When Owen came downstairs, Evelyn hurried over. “Owen, Nerissa will definitely make a scene again today, threatening suicide.

“Please don’t soften and change your mind about the divorce. We can’t let this happen again.”

The Calloway family had barely shaken off Nerissa’s entanglements and couldn’t afford a repeat.

Evelyn no longer wanted to be mocked as Nerissa’s family.

Recently, although Owen had risen as a dark horse in the finance world, Evelyn still couldn’t hold her head high among the socialite wives.

Other wives were daughters of prestigious families, but Nerissa hadn’t even finished high school.

Because of Nerissa, Evelyn had even been cropped out of a big family photo.

There was no denying that Nerissa had dragged the entire Calloway family’s status down.

Owen nodded. “Don’t worry, Mom. I know what I’m doing.”

‘I won’t do anything stupid. Even if Nerissa really dies at City Hall this time, I’ll still finish the divorce, Owen thought.

Chapter 10 Nerissa’s Strength

After breakfast, Owen arrived at City Hall’s entrance.

It was nearly eight o’clock, but Nerissa hadn’t shown up.

Owen frowned slightly and wondered, ‘I always knew Nerissa wouldn’t keep her promise. If she loves me so much, why would she agree to divorce easily?

‘Thankfully, she already signed the papers. Even if she changes her mind and refuses, it won’t matter.’

Just then, a taxi came into Owen’s view.

The door opened. A sexy leg stepped out.

Owen’s gaze followed upward, landing on Nerissa’s delicate features.

She wore a pale yellow V-neck blouse, revealing a gracefully curved collarbone. Few people could pull off pale yellow; wearing it wrong could crush one’s aura under such a bright color.

But Nerissa made it look even better, as if all the colors in the world had faded beside her.

Though she wore no makeup, her beauty was breathtaking, catching everyone’s breath.

Even Owen was drawn in.

Nerissa walked up to the City Hall entrance. Seeing Owen still standing there, she furrowed her brow slightly. “Owen, what are you spacing out for?”

Owen’s eyes widened as he wondered, ‘Why does that voice sound so familiar?’

He slowly turned to look at Nerissa, stunned. ‘Is that really Nerissa?’ he wondered.

They’d been married for a year, but Owen had never realized how beautiful she was without makeup.

Though he hated to admit it, right now, Nerissa was genuinely stunning.

But Owen quickly figured it out.

This has to be Nerissa’s new trick to play hard to get.

He wondered, “No makeup, no gray clothes anymore. What is she trying to do? Go for an innocent look? Is she trying to grab my attention in this pathetic way? Some habits never die.’

Owen frowned in disgust. “Nerissa, what exactly are you trying to do?”
