Dumped Then Claimed By A Billionaire (Nerissa and Owen) novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Chapter 112

It was the first time Joel had ever met Nerissa.

But just laying eyes on her, he felt an unexpected warmth bloom in his chest.

It was a feeling so gentle and comforting, it caught him off guard.

Honestly, it was even more intimate than seeing his own son.

Hearing his brother’s words, Victor couldn’t help but nod along. “I feel the same way. She’s definitely one of ours!”

Verena smiled. “Let’s hope this time we finally get the happy ending we’ve been waiting for.”

Nineteen years had passed.

It’s about time they were reunited with Arie’s family.

Jessica hooked her arm through Verena’s. “If she’s not Arie, I’m totally adopting her as my goddaughter!”

Verena immediately protested, “Jessica, how can you cut in line like that? I was thinking the same thing! If Nerissa isn’t Arie, I’m claiming her as my goddaughter too!”

“Verena, how could you? I brought it up first!” Jessica pouted.

“But I really mean it!” Verena shot back.

The two sisters-in-law started bickering, getting all red-faced over who got to claim Nerissa as their goddaughter.

Victor sighed, a little helpless. “Alright, alright, you two, cut it out. Neither of you gets dibs on her as your goddaughter.”

“Why not?” Verena and Jessica both turned to him at the same time.

Joel added, “Because Nerissa is absolutely family!”

100%!

Jessica tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I really hope she’s Arie, but over the years, we’ve run into so many people who looked just like Charlotte, and every single time, we’ve been let down. I’m just scared it’ll happen again…”

Her meaning hung in the air, unspoken but clear to everyone.

Joel narrowed his eyes. “It’s different this time! I’m sure of it!”

Nerissa swiped her keycard and stepped into the hotel room.

Hearing the door open, Faye immediately ran over. “Nerissa, you’re back!”

“Yeah, Fifi,” Nerissa nodded slightly. “Didn’t you go out this morning?”

“I went out exploring and stumbled upon this hidden gem of a shop!” Faye said, her eyes lighting up. “Nerissa, want to check it out for afternoon tea later?”

“Sure,” Nerissa replied, slipping off her coat.

Faye asked, “By the way, how’s Mrs. Berenson doing?”

“She’s doing much better,” Nerissa replied.

“Nerissa, you’re amazing! You really worked a miracle!” Faye said with a grin. “When I heard what happened to Mrs. Berenson, I was so worried. She’s such a wonderful person, always giving back to the community. I really hope she lives a long, healthy life and gets to see her daughter and granddaughter come home.”

Hearing that, Nerissa suddenly remembered something and turned to Faye. “Oh, Fifi, the Berensons invited me over tomorrow. You should totally come with me!”

She grinned, “Plus, they’ve got like a dozen grandkids, and most of them are seriously good-looking. Isn’t scoping out cute guys your favorite hobby?”

Hot guys!

Faye’s eyes practically sparkled at the mention.

Getting to visit the Berenson family and check out all the handsome guys? That was basically a dream come true.

She’d been curious about the Berenson family-the big shots in Minttown-for ages.

But Faye still shook her head at Nerissa’s invitation. “Nerissa, you’re the one who saved Mrs. Berenson. I really shouldn’t go.”

Faye knew how to behave; she wasn’t the type to overstep.

The Berensons invited Nerissa because they wanted to thank her.

It’s not like she was the one who saved Mrs. Berenson-she’d just be crashing the party if she tagged along.

“It’s really fine, Fifi,” Nerissa said with a smile. “The Berensons know I’m here in Minttown with a friend, and they specifically said I could bring you along.”

“Honestly, Nerissa, I’d rather not. It’s your first time visiting the Berensons-maybe after you’ve gotten to know them better, I’ll come with you and we can scope out the hotties together! Right now, I’d just feel way out of place.”

Seriously, it’d just be way too much pressure.

Hearing Faye say that, Nerissa nodded. “You sure you won’t get bored hanging out at the hotel by yourself tomorrow?”

“Nah, I had a blast today on my own,” Faye replied.

“Alright then,” Nerissa said..

Later that afternoon, Nerissa and Faye went out for afternoon tea together.

The dim sum in Minttown wasn’t just delicious-it was beautifully presented and really exquisite.

And most importantly, they were sweet.

It was totally Nerissa’s thing-she polished off two whole plates of desserts in no time, leaving Faye gaping in disbelief. “Nerissa, aren’t you worried about packing on the pounds eating ill that at once?”

“No big deal. If I get fat, I’ll just go on a diet,” Nerissa said, not even batting an eye. “Life’s all about eating and drinking. If you can’t enjoy the things you love, what’s the point?”

Faye nodded, thinking Nerissa had a point.

After their afternoon tea, the two of them went sightseeing and snapped plenty of pics for their socials at all the must-see

spots.

Just like that, it was already the next day.

Nerissa went to visit the Berensons just like she’d promised.

The Berenson family’s car was already waiting downstairs bright and early.

As soon as Nerissa stepped out, Oliver and Sebastian immediately stood up to greet her. “Dr. Jamison.”

“Sir Oliver, Sir Sebastian,” Nerissa greeted them with a smile.

The Berenson grandkids were all named after things like the cardinal directions-north, south, east, west-plus positions like up, down, left, right, and even celestial stuff like the sun, moon, and stars.

Sebastian was the fifth in line among his cousins.

His name is actually a play on the word “up” from that set, so it sounds just like it.

Funny thing was, ever since their dad and the rest of the family started saying Nerissa was the spitting image of Aunt Charlotte, Oliver and Sebastian just started treating her like their own sister without even thinking about it.

There were more than a dozen of them, all boys-growing up, they’d always dreamed of having an adorable little sister. But every time one of their aunts had a baby, it was just another wild little guy joining the crew.

If Nerissa really turned out to be their sister, it’d finally fulfill that childhood wish they’d been holding onto for years.

“Hey, Dr. Jamison,” Sebastian stepped up, “the car’s right outside. Let’s get going.”

Nerissa gave a small nod and stepped outside.

Oliver and Sebastian fell in right behind her.

The car took off fast.

Mrs. Berenson was already outside, waiting with several of her sons and their wives.

There were a ton of Berensons around.

The whole scene was pretty epic-just looking at the crowd, you could feel the family’s presence.

Pfft!

The car came to a stop.

Oliver and Sebastian walked over and opened the door.

Nerissa stepped out.

It was at that exact moment.

Mrs. Berenson and the rest of the family hurried over to greet her.

“Dr. Jamison, you’re finally here! I’ve been craning my neck waiting for you!” Mrs. Berenson said with a playful grin.

Nerissa gently took Mrs. Berenson’s hand. “Mrs. Berenson, you’ve just recovered-you shouldn’t be out in the wind for too long. Let’s get you inside.”

“Alright, Mrs. Berenson nodded.

Every time Mrs. Berenson saw Nerissa, her mood instantly brightened and all her worries seemed to melt away.

Once inside the house, Mrs. Berenson wasted no time and asked the staff to bring out tea and refreshments. Only the finest selections were served. They carefully brewed some top-quality tea.

The pastries were beautifully crafted, and Mrs. Berenson held Nerissa’s hand the whole time, talking with her warmly.

Joanna and Eliana exchanged a look, then Joanna grinned and said, “Mom, let me tell you and Dr. Jamison a joke!”

“Sure!” Mrs. Berenson replied.

Joanna went on, “So, it was exam day in the underwater world. The little shrimp hadn’t studied at all, so he decided to cheat. The fish teacher asked, ‘Who did you copy from?’ The shrimp, looking super embarrassed, said, ‘Sorry, teacher, I copied from the clam. The fish teacher got mad and said, ‘You copied from a clam? You gotta be kidding me-next time, try not to clam up during the test!”

Mrs. Berenson burst out laughing.

Nerissa found herself laughing too.

Her smile was stunning-those soft dimples at the corners of her lips just drew people in.

At that moment, everything felt different.

Joanna and Eliana were practically buzzing with excitement.

Those dimples!

Whenever she smiled, those dimples really popped out.

Mrs. Berenson could hardly contain her excitement.

Verena came over with a tray of drinks. “Dr. Jamison, we’ve got lemonade, fresh orange juice, and watermelon juice. What would you like?”

“Lemonade’s fine,” Nerissa replied.

Hearing that, Nancy quickly picked up the lemonade and handed it to Nerissa.

Just as she was about to pass the lemonade to Nerissa, her grip slipped.

Suddenly, there was a loud bang-

The whole glass of lemonade spilled all over Nerissa’s arm.

Verena shot Nancy a look, frowning. “Nancy, seriously-such butterfingers! You got Dr. Jamison’s sleeve all wet!”

Nancy rushed to apologize, “I’m so sorry, Dr. Jamison, I swear I didn’t mean to! Let me help you dry it off.”

As she spoke, Nancy grabbed a tissue and gently dabbed at Nerissa’s hand to wipe away the spilled drink.

“It’s fine, Madam Nancy, I’ve got it,” Nerissa said, brushing off the accident like it was nothing. She casually rolled up her left sleeve.

Suddenly, all eyes were on Nerissa’s arm.

Her skin was porcelain-pale.

It was smooth and flawless, like polished jade.

Not a trace of a red birthmark-there wasn’t even a tiny mole on that pristine arm.

Just like that, all the hope drained from Mrs. Berenson’s face.

Nothing!

Not even a trace!

‘Why? Why is the universe messing with me like this?

‘Everything matches-those dimples, that face, just like Charlotte. So why, why is the birthmark missing?’ Mrs. Berenson agonized, feeling her hopes crash down.

When they saw Nerissa’s arm was completely clear, you could see the disappointment written all over the Berenson family’s faces.

After everything they’d been through, it turned out to be nothing but wishful thinking.

Nerissa quickly wiped the water off her left arm, then rolled up her right sleeve.

The very next second, a striking red birthmark appeared on Nerissa’s arm-so vivid that everyone’s eyes locked onto it in stunned silence.
