Dumped Then Claimed By A Billionaire (Nerissa and Owen) novel Chapter 44

Chapter 44 Lose It

“Nice to meet you guys. Do I need to go right now?” she asked.

“Yes, is that okay for you?” Adrian said. “If it’s not convenient, we can wait here or have someone bring the documents for you to sign.”

He wasn’t joking around. Nerissa was their top scorer. If word got out about her test results, other schools would swarm in to steal her away.

That was why Adrian and Kevin had rushed over so fast.

Nerissa said, “I’m free, but I need to tell my grandpa first.”

She called Hunter while they followed her to the elevator and headed downstairs.

The call didn’t go through, but when they walked out of the building entrance, she saw Hunter walking toward them with his colleagues.

When Nerissa spotted Hunter, she immediately jogged over to him. “Grandpa!”

‘Grandpa?’ Kane’s mind went blank. ‘Who is Nerissa calling grandpa? Hunter?’

He thought back to how he’d just mocked Hunter and even promised to eat crow if he was wrong. Kane’s face turned red and then pale, and he wanted nothing more than to crawl into a hole and disappear.

He was dying of embarrassment.

Adrian and Kevin were shocked, too. Neither of them had expected that a janitor’s granddaughter would be this impressive. A 1420 on the SAT put her in the top tier of test-takers.

Hunter still hadn’t caught on yet, and he looked at Nerissa. “Nerissa, where are you heading?”

Before Nerissa could answer, Adrian rushed over and grabbed Hunter’s hand enthusiastically. “Sir, I’m so sorry about earlier. I didn’t recognize you. I’m Adrian, the principal of Yiorlian School, and we’re here to deliver some great news to your granddaughter.”

Kevin chimed in, “Sir, you’ve raised her so well. Your granddaughter has an incredibly bright future ahead of her.”

He quickly grabbed Hunter’s other hand. “Hunter, hello. I’m Kevin Anderson, the dean of Yiorlian School. Mr. Lynch is absolutely right. You’ve raised an amazing granddaughter, and she’s got a brilliant future waiting for her. Just sit back and enjoy the good life.”

“Thank you.” Hunter felt like his life had reached its peak as Adrian and Kevin held both his hands. “So does this mean my Nerissa really got into Yiorlian School?”

“Yes, congratulations! Nerissa didn’t just get into Yiorlian School. She placed first.”

The transfer exam was significantly harder than the regular finals they gave their students, and they designed it that way to maintain high admission standards.

In the past three years, no one had ever scored above 1420 on the transfer exam.

Nerissa’s first-place finish took everyone by surprise, and it made Yiorlian School believe she had what it took to rank among the very best in the state next year.

“First place? Nerissa got first place? Are you saying Nerissa really came in first?” Hunter asked twice, and his face showed complete disbelief. He thought he was dreaming.

Adrian nodded. “Yes, sir. Your granddaughter really did get first place.”

Hunter’s eyes welled up with tears of joy, and he turned to his coworkers. “Did you all see that? Nerissa got first place. I wasn’t just talking crazy.”

In that moment, Hunter felt incredibly proud, and his coworkers looked at him with envy.

Education was the path to success, and Nerissa had just proven it.

Nerissa was the first place, and at Aosthorne’s best high school, too.

Hunter had finally made it.

“Congrats, Hunter!” his coworkers said.

“So Hunter, you’re buying us dinner tonight, right?” someone asked.

“Yeah! Hunter’s treating us tonight,” another chimed in.

“I’ll treat everyone. Tonight we’re all gonna drink and celebrate,” Hunter said with a big smile. Then he looked at Nerissa.” Nerissa, you go with Mr. Lynch to the school and handle the paperwork. I will wait for you at home.”

“Okay, Grandpa. We’ll head out now,” Nerissa said.

After Nerissa and Adrian left, Hunter turned to Kane. “Mr. Trelawney, didn’t you say Nerissa couldn’t get into Yiorlian School? Looks like my granddaughter’s way smarter than your son.”

Kane could only nod awkwardly. “Hunter, Nerissa is pretty impressive, I’ll give you that.”

Hunter continued, “I was just joking about the eating shit part. How about we grab drinks tonight, Mr. Trelawney?”

It was pure humiliation.

Kane forced out a few dry laughs and replied with a terrible expression, “I’m actually busy tonight, so I’ll have to pass

Ugh, screw that smug old bastard, he thought bitterly. “What’s he got to be so proud of? Who knows if Nerissa even cheated? And even if she didn’t cheat, so what?”

He thought venomously, ‘Girls’ brains don’t develop as well as boys’ brains anyway. Once junior year hits, the guys in her class will catch up and pass her. Her grades are gonna tank for sure.”

He sneered internally, ‘Plus, Nerissa’s way too pretty. She’s definitely gonna start dating once school starts, and she’ll probably get knocked up. An unwed pregnancy, completely shameless. Let’s see how Hunter acts so cocky then.”

Chapter 45 Extreme Rescue

Kane’s emotions were all over the place right now, and jealousy was eating him alive. ‘Hunter’s just a janitor who works for me, he thought. ‘How the hell does his granddaughter get to be better than my son?

His son had received a pretty decent education, and Kane had even hired two teachers from prestigious schools to tutor him. That was like ten thousand times better than whatever education Nerissa had gotten.

It was humiliating!

He watched Hunter’s figure disappear in the distance, and he spat on the ground. “Whatever, he thought. My son’s gonna be ten thousand times better than Nerissa someday, and he’ll crush her into the dirt.’

Meanwhile, Nerissa followed Adrian and Kevin to Yiorlian School.

Adrian watched Nerissa finish her enrollment, and the weight on his chest finally lifted. No other school could now snatch this excellent student away from them.

He patted Nerissa’s shoulder and grinned. “Nerissa, go home and prepare. You’ll represent the senior class at the opening ceremony and give a speech as our outstanding student.”

“Okay, Mr. Lynch.” Nerissa nodded slightly. “I’ll head out now then.”

Adrian grabbed his car keys immediately. “Nerissa, let me give you a ride.” He couldn’t let their star student get tired out.

“No need, Mr. Lynch. I’m meeting someone.”

Adrian put the keys back down when he heard she had plans and walked her to the office door. “Be safe on your way. Nerissa,” he said with a smile.

He kept smiling brightly even after Nerissa disappeared from view down the hallway.

‘This is wonderful, he thought.

Nerissa wasn’t just academically brilliant. She was also polite and respectful. She was basically the perfect model student every teacher dreamed of having.

Yiorlian School really hit the jackpot this time.

A few juniors came to the office to turn in their homework. They saw Adrian standing by the doorframe, grinning like an idiot.

They all stared with wide eyes, wondering if they were hallucinating.

Adrian was usually super strict at school. Everyone called him the “Student Nightmare,” and even the most rebellious kids had to behave around him.

One student muttered under his breath, “Look at Adrian smiling like that. Tsk, he looks like some rich family’s dumb son or something.”

The students all called Adrian by his first name directly.

“Well, maybe he got possessed or something.”

Another student chimed in, “I heard a dark horse showed up for the transfer exam and scored 1420. Adrian’s probably grinning like an idiot because of that.”

“Holy shit. 1420. Are you serious? I looked at that test paper too, and it was legit hard. Way harder than this year’s SAT. I’d be happy if I could score above 1300, but this person got 1420. That’s like goals, man.”

“I really wanna meet this new student.”

The weather was pleasant that day. A cool breeze swept through the streets, making everything feel comfortable. Nerissa stepped out of the taxi and spotted a crowd gathered up ahead. People were talking loudly and pointing at something. She quickened her pace and pushed through to see what was happening.

An elderly woman lay collapsed in the middle of the road. The woman had white hair and wore expensive-looking clothes, but her face had gone deathly pale. She looked like she was in serious danger.

The bystanders kept talking among themselve

‘Did someone call 911?” one person asked.

Successfully unlocked!

“Yeah, yeah, we called already,” another replied. “But there’s a traffic jam on the overpass. They said it’ll take at least ten or
