Chapter 50 Finding Her Savior

Luke’s jaw dropped, and he looked like he might actually scream with joy.

He never thought Lennox would start liking opera because of him.

Lennox was stubborn as hell and never took anyone’s advice, but now he’d changed his entire taste in music just because Luke had mentioned it once.

That meant Luke actually mattered to him.

The more Luke thought about it, the more emotional he got. He turned to Lennox with stars in his eyes. “Lennox, I didn’t know I was so important to you. You changed your whole preference just for me. You’re literally the best Lennox in the entire world.”

Lennox stared out the window, speechless.

The car moved fast, and about thirty minutes later, they arrived at Merritt Manor.

Ethan wasn’t one for extravagance, so he’d kept his birthday celebration simple with just some basic decorations at home.

Lennox handed over the gift he’d prepared. “Happy birthday, Ethan,” he said, his tone subdued.

Ethan smiled and took the gift box. “Lennox, honestly, if you’d brought a girlfriend today, that would’ve been the best gift you could give me.”

People always said it was lonely at the top, and Lennox was always alone.

Like Riley, Ethan hoped Lennox would find someone who could stand beside him as an equal. Besides, everyone needed a companion in life. He couldn’t keep going like this forever.

“Ethan, you’re asking the impossible,” Lennox said, his lips barely parting.

Ethan smiled, “So you still haven’t changed your mind about marriage?”

“Nope.” Lennox shook his head slightly. “I haven’t.”

Ethan looked at Lennox with a meaningful expression. “Look, I’m not saying being unmarried is bad, but marriage isn’t as complicated as you think.”

He continued, “If you ever meet a girl who makes your heart skip a beat, you better cherish her and stop with this whole anti-marriage thing. Some opportunities only come once, and if you let them slip away, they’re gone forever. You gotta treasure what’s right in front of you.”

He glanced at his wife beside him. “That Ms. Jamison seems pretty great, actually. Your sister mentioned she’s coming by in a few days to check on your recovery, so you better make the most of that chance.”

Nerissa might be young, but her medical skills were extraordinary and way beyond what most people could achieve.

Ethan thought highly of Nerissa, just like Riley did.

At the same time, Nerissa was the most compatible woman Ethan had ever seen for Lennox.

For someone like Lennox, he needed an equal partner, and Nerissa fit that description perfectly.

“Ms. Jamison saved my life,” Lennox said flatly. “I’m grateful to her, but that’s all there is to it. I don’t have any other feelings

for her.”

Ethan sighed at his response, “Alright then, I guess you can’t force these things.”

“Force what?” Riley scoffed and turned to look at Ethan.

She said, “You want to set him up with Ms. Jamison, but do you really think she’d be interested in him? Stop being so full of yourself. A girl as amazing as Ms. Jamison probably has a line of guys waiting to date her.”

Riley wasn’t exaggerating.

A girl as wonderful as Nerissa would naturally have plenty of admirers around her.

Lennox pressed his lips together and stayed quiet. His expression was unreadable.

“Don’t worry about it, Lennox,” Hannah said. She walked over to him and took his hand. “It’s not a big deal if Ms. Jamison isn’t interested in you. I actually know another great girl.”

She continued, “She’s not only beautiful but sh Successfully unlocked! 00. I really like her. Once I finish handling your

current situation, I’ll help you bring her home.”

‘God, I’m so impressed with Nerissa, Hannah thought. ‘I want to bring her home right now.’

The problem was that Hannah had been investigating for a while and still couldn’t find any detailed information about Nerissa. It was like some invisible, mysterious force was protecting her from behind the scenes.

The next day came quickly, and Nerissa headed to Yvonne’s research institute with Clive.

Yvonne’s institute sat right in the heart of the city’s busiest district, and security was tight. Just like the previous two visits, Clive and Nerissa barely made it to the entrance before a security guard stopped them. “Who are you here to see?”

Clive smiled, “Hey man, we’re here to see Ms. Jenkins.”

The guard dealt with people like Clive every single day. “Do you have an appointment?”

“Not yet,” Clive said and shook his head.

The moment he heard they didn’t have an appointment, the guard’s tone turned impatient. “No appointment means you wait in line over there, but I can’t promise Ms. Jenkins will see you.”

Clive froze for a second.

The last few times they’d come, Gianna had been with them, so they’d at least gotten to wait in the reception room with Yvonne’s assistant.

But today was different. Without Gianna, they couldn’t even get into the reception room.

Nerissa didn’t seem discouraged at all. She turned to look at Clive, and her voice stayed calm. “Then let’s go wait in line.”

“Okay.” Clive nodded.

They turned the corner and found the entrance to the queue.

Clive hadn’t expected what he saw next, and it caught him completely off guard. The line of people waiting to see Yvonne stretched out like a dragon, winding endlessly ahead of them.

He and Nerissa took their spots at the very end.

Someone walked up to Clive and asked, “Are you here to see Ms. Jenkins too?”

“Yeah.” Clive nodded.

The person continued, “Which company are you from?”

“Kinsbeat Game,” Clive replied.

The moment they heard that, their interest spiked. “Kinsbeat Game? The one that’s been blowing up on Twitter lately?”

“Yep.” Clive nodded.

“Well, you probably don’t have a shot then. I heard Ms. Jenkins already made a deal with Calloway Group, so you might as well save yourself the trouble and head out. This heat’s gonna kill us all anyway.”

Kinsbeat Game had been getting a lot of buzz recently, but they still couldn’t compete with Calloway Group. And on top of that, Jane and Yvonne were old classmates, so that connection made things even harder for Kinsbeat Game.

Clive didn’t let it get to him, though. He just smiled politely and said, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

Meanwhile, Gianna pulled out her phone and sent a WhatsApp message to Yvonne’s assistant, Wendy York.

Gianna: [Wendy, did Clive and that girl show up yet?]

Wendy and Gianna had a decent relationship, so when she saw the message, Wendy immediately sent back a screenshot from the security cameras.

Wendy: [Yeah, they’re here. Standing at the back of the line. Gianna: Go kick them out.]

Gianna wanted Clive to know that without her, he couldn’t even get through the door. She needed him to come crawling back and apologize to her face.

Wendy: [Got it. Consider it done.]

As Yvonne’s assistant, getting rid of some random people waiting in line was nothing. Easy work.

Gianna smirked when she saw Wendy’s reply. Any minute now, Clive and Nerissa would be thrown out on their asses, and then Clive would come begging.

Wendy moved fast. Right after texting Glanna back, she headed straight to the waiting area.

When Clive spotted her, his face lit up. ‘Did our sincerity actually move Ms. Jenkins?’ he thought. ‘Is Wendy here to bring us in for a meeting?’

“Ms. York,” Clive said, greeting her with a smile.

Wendy let out a cold snort and didn’t even glance at him. Her eyes landed on Nerissa instead. “Mr. Beaumont, Ms. Jenkins made it very clear. We don’t welcome people like you in our institute. So leave. Now. And don’t dirty up our space.”

Clive froze. He couldn’t believe that Wendy, who’d been so polite to him just yesterday, had completely changed her attitude today.

Nerissa could tell right away that someone had put Wendy up to this. She wasn’t angry, though, and she just looked at the woman calmly. “So is this your idea, Ms. York, or is this coming from Ms. Jenkins?”

“It’s Ms. Jenkins’ orders, obviously,” Wendy shot back. “If you don’t believe me, you can go ask her yourself. That is, if you’ ve got the guts to do it.” By the end, her face was full of mockery.

‘If Nerissa was really that capable, she wouldn’t be standing here in line; Wendy thought smugly.

Today, Nerissa and Clive had to go.

“Some people think they’re so special just because they’ve got a pretty face, but they don’t realize they’re nothing but a joke,” Wendy continued. “I need you both to leave right now. If I have to call security, it’s gonna get ugly for everyone.”

Clive realized something was seriously wrong. He looked at Wendy and said, “You’re doing this on purpose. You know we can’t get in touch with Ms. Jenkins, so you’re deliberately making things difficult for us.”

Wendy rolled her eyes and played up her arrogance to the max. “So what if I am? Go ahead and get Ms. Jenkins to stand up for you then.” She sneered, “I deal with people like you two all day long. Don’t push your luck. Get out of here now.”

At Wendy’s signal, the security guards immediately moved in to force Nerissa and Clive out.

With no other choice, Clive and Nerissa had to leave the queue area.

Clive stormed out of the research institute, his face flushed with anger. “Wendy is way out of line,” he said. “She only dares to treat us like this because she knows we can’t reach Ms. Jenkins. Ms. Jamison, what are we gonna do now?”

The more Clive thought about it, the angrier he got. If he could just get in touch with Yvonne, he’d expose every single one of Wendy’s nasty schemes. People like her were a complete embarrassment to Yvonne’s reputation. Nerissa glanced at her watch, her expression unreadable. “Let’s head back to the office,” she said. ‘There’s more than one way to skin a cat,’ she thought. ‘If this route doesn’t work, I’ll find another one.’

“Okay.” Clive nodded and followed Nerissa toward the parking lot.

Right then, a car pulled up slowly near the entrance of the research institute. Inside sat none other than Yvonne herself.

Yvonne casually glanced out the window, and her heart skipped a beat when she spotted a familiar figure. ‘Wait. Is that Ms. Jamison?’ she thought. ‘Yes. It’s definitely her.’

Excitement surged through Yvonne. She couldn’t let Nerissa disappear before she had a chance to catch her. “Stop the car,” she ordered the driver urgently. “Stop right now.”
