Dumped Then Claimed By A Billionaire (Nerissa and Owen) novel Chapter 57

Chapter 57 Nerissa Was Angry!

Wipe dog shit off his shoes? Seriously?

Hunter stared at Mr. Trelawney in disbelief, wondering if he’d just misheard.

Even the two workers nearby thought they’d misheard. Michael couldn’t help but speak up. “Mr. Trelawney, making Hunter wipe your shoes? Isn’t that just plain disrespectful?”

“Yeah, Mr. Trelawney, why put him through this?” Lane chimed in.

Mr. Trelawney smiled and looked up at Hunter. “Disrespectful? Well then, Hunter, let’s just drop it. It’s not like you care about this job anyway.”

With that, Mr. Trelawney started to get up from his chair, acting like he was about to leave.

Seeing this, Hunter quickly reached out and stopped him. “No, Mr. Trelawney, please don’t go. I’ll do it. I’ll wipe your shoes clean right now.”

‘It’s just cleaning shoes, isn’t it?’ Hunter thought to himself.

‘Guess I’m just switching jobs for a minute.’

‘Plenty of folks make a living shining shoes out on the street.’

‘Does that mean their lives don’t matter?’

Hunter told himself it was no big deal. He grabbed a tissue from the table, went down on one knee, and started wiping Mr. Trelawney’s shoes.

When Lane and Michael saw Hunter actually get down on one knee to clean Mr. Trelawney’s shoes, they rushed over to stop him. “Hunter, get up! We aren’t taking this crap.”

Mr. Trelawney was clearly just bullying him.

Hunter looked at them and forced a smile. “It’s fine, really. No need to stop me. Guess I should feel lucky to be the one shining Mr. Trelawney’s shoes.”

He came from the countryside, could hardly read a word, and he was no spring chicken anymore. Landing a job like this was no walk in the park.

‘If all it takes to keep this job is wiping Mr. Trelawney’s shoes, that’s actually a pretty good deal,’ Hunter thought to himself.

Seeing Hunter like this, Lane quickly snatched a tissue. “Let me help you.”

Michael grabbed one too. “I’m with you, man.”

These old men always had each other’s backs.

Lane and Michael just couldn’t stand watching their old friend get humiliated like this.

Mr. Trelawney shot Lane and Michael a scowl. “You two, beat it. I only want Hunter to do this.”

Hunter looked up at them with a forced smile. “I get it, guys. Thanks for looking out for me.”

Lane and Michael were boiling with anger, but they were powerless to do anything.

Faced with authority; all they could do was bow their heads and accept it.

Mr. Trelawney leaned back in his chair and watched Hunter. “Keep at it, Hunter. Make sure they’re spotless.”

“Yes, yes, I will,” Hunter nodded repeatedly.

Mr. Trelawney lounged in his chair, smirking at Hunter. “Always showing off about your granddaughter being number one, weren’t you? Who’d have thought the grandpa of a top student would end up on his knees shining my shoes?”

‘Big deal if she’s top of the class?’ Mr. Trelawney scoffed.

‘Getting into Yiorlian School isn’t all that, is it?’ he sneered to himself.

His own son might not have gotten into Yiorlian School or snagged first place, but at least he didn’t have to grovel like Hunter did.

‘Some folks are just born to be pitiful, Mr. Trelawney snickered to himself.

Hunter didn’t say a word. He just kept his head down meticulously cleaning Mr. Trelawney’s shoes, focusing on every spot as if nothing else mattered.

Successfully unlocked!

After about five or six minutes, he carefully dispuse of the tissue in the wash. “Mr. Trelawney, I’ve finished cleaning your shoes.”

Mr. Trelawney glanced at his shoes. “Not bad.”

Hunter got to his feet. “Mr. Trelawney, guess I’ll get back to work now.”

“Stop right there!” Mr. Trelawney snapped.

Hunter turned, puzzled. “What is it, Mr. Trelawney? Is there something else you need?”

Mr. Trelawney let out a cold laugh. “Didn’t I just say? You’re fired.”

“Fired?” Hunter froze in disbelief. “But Mr. Trelawney, you promised if I cleaned your shoes, I could stay.”

“Did I ever say that?” Mr. Trelawney feigned confusion, eyebrows raised. “Did I really say that?”

Lane jumped in right away. “You did say it! I can vouch for that!”

Michael added, “Me too! I heard it loud and clear, Mr. Trelawney. That’s just bullying.”

Mr. Trelawney strode right up to Hunter and stopped. “Bullying? Yeah, I’m bullying you. So what? What are you gonna do about it?”

“Mr. Trelawney!” Michael clenched his fists, barely holding back. “Don’t go too far!”

Hunter quickly stepped in front of Michael. “Please, Mr. Trelawney, can we just talk? What do you really want from me?” Mr. Trelawney’s eyes flashed with mockery. “What do you expect me to do? I’m just following company rules. If they want you out, it’s not my problem. So just get lost. No fuss.”

Lane was on the verge of losing it. “If you never meant to help Hunter, why did you make him clean your shoes? Aren’t you just one of the company’s employees? Who do you think you are, treating people like this?”

Mr. Trelawney’s face darkened with fury when Lane called him out. “Leo, you better keep your mouth shut! Or you can get out of here with Hunter Jamison!”

“Fine, I quit! Mr. Trelawney, I’m done putting up with this!” Leo tore off his vest and threw it to the ground.

“Me too, I quit!” Michael yanked off his vest and tossed it down. “Trelawney, you bastard, you’ll get what’s coming to you!”

Seeing his two old buddies end up losing their jobs because of him, Hunter quickly tried to stop them. “Michael, Leo, don’t do anything stupid because of me. Don’t quit over this.”

Then Hunter walked over to Mr. Trelawney, pleading for Leo and Michael. “Mr. Trelawney, if you’ve got a problem, take it out on me. Michael and Leo are innocent. They didn’t mean it. They were just messing around. Please, don’t take it out on them!”

Mr. Trelawney shoved Hunter’s hand away. “Get out! All of you! I’m telling you, from now on, you’re all fired!”

Hunter almost lost his balance and fell to the ground.

“Hunter, don’t beg him! Who’d want to work under someone like that?” Leo and Michael didn’t hesitate and they hauled Hunter away.

Out by the door, Hunter glanced at his two friends, guilt heavy in his eyes.

“Michael, Leo, I’m really sorry for dragging you into this. Because of me, you both lost your jobs,” he said.

Jobs were hard to come by these days, even for the young. For guys their age, it was next to impossible.

“Come on, Hunter, don’t blame yourself,” Leo said, trying to reassure him. We quit because we wanted to. None of this is on you.”

“That’s right,” Michael added. “I’ve had it with that jerk Trelawney for ages. He’s a nobody, always acting like he’s in charge! Don’t worry, Hunter. Just take a rest at home today. Tomorrow we’ll hit the streets together and look for new work.”

“Yeah,” Leo nodded. “We’ll stick together tomorrow.”

Seeing how genuine his two old friends were, Hunter was really touched. He grinned and said, “Michael, Leo, since we’re all free today, why not just stay and have dinner at my place tonight?”

“Nah, I can’t,” Leo replied, shaking his head. “My grandson’s been pestering me for a toy gun for days. I haven’t had a chance and I’ll finally take him after school today.”

“I can’t either,” Michael added. “My wife just texted me. Her younger sister and the whole family are coming over.”

After Hunter and the others left, Mr. Trelawney pulled out his phone and made a call, acting like a total bootlicker.

He was sucking up hard.

“Hello, Ms. Pierce, rest assured, I’ve fired Hunter Jamison. You can count on it. They’ll be out of Aosthorne before you know it,” he said flatteringly.

That was it.

Chapter 57 Nerissa Was Angry!

Audrey Pierce was the mastermind behind it all.

She’d never let anyone come between her and Owen.

That was why.

She had to kick Nerissa out.

The first move? Cut off Nerissa’s money.

The Jamison family’s only source of money was Hunter’s janitor gig. If he lost his job, Nerissa wouldn’t stand a chance of making it in Aosthorne.

That much was clear.

No way.

“You did great,” Audrey said on the phone. “Don’t worry, I’ll have Mr. John Miller promote you.”

John Miller was Mr. Trelawney’s direct supervisor.

“Thank you, Ms. Pierce! Thank you so much!” Mr. Trelawney could barely contain his excitement. “If you ever need anything, you can always count on me.”

From what he knew, Audrey was a bona fide heiress, a real big shot.

With a powerhouse like her in his corner, he was sure he’d be moving up in the world in no time.

The more he thought about it, the more thrilled he got. He could already picture himself rolling in promotions and cash.

When Nerissa got home, it was 2:30 in the afternoon.

She was in pretty good spirits.

Nerissa was humming to herself on the way back. If one listened close, he’d catch that it was a bit from a famous opera piece.

When Nerissa walked in, she spotted her grandpa busy cleaning up the living room.

She blinked in surprise. “Grandpa, are you taking the day off?”

Hunter didn’t want to upset Nerissa, so he kept it simple. “Nerissa, I quit my job,” he said.

Nerissa’s face lit up with a smile. “Really? You finally changed your mind!”

She’d tried countless times to convince Hunter to quit, but he just wouldn’t budge.

He never listened to her advice.

In the end, Nerissa could only let him have his way.

Who would’ve thought her grandpa would finally quit on his own today?

“Quit?” Kennedy burst out of his room, face full of anger. “Nerissa, your grandpa was bullied at work!”

Hunter jumped in before he could say more. “Kennedy, don’t go saying stuff like that.”

“What? Someone bullied Grandpa?” Nerissa’s face instantly darkened, a flash of anger in her eyes.

She strode over to Kennedy. “Grandpa Kennedy, who did this to him? If something happened, you have to tell me. Don’t keep anything from me.”

Hunter knew Kennedy was terrible at keeping secrets, so he’d never mentioned the bullying from Mr. Trelawney. But Kennedy could tell something fishy was going on with Hunter suddenly quitting, so he’d called Michael and Lane to get the

scoop.

Only then did he learn the whole ugly truth.

“I swear, I wasn’t bullied,” Hunter said, giving Kennedy a pointed fook, trying to signal him to keep quiet. “Kennedy, seriously, don’t go saying stuff like that!”

Telling Nerissa about this would only weigh on her mind and wouldn’t solve anything.

Besides, she was about to start her senior year. Hunter just wanted her to keep her head in her books and not get distracted by all this drama.

But Kennedy wasn’t about to let his old friend get pushed around for no reason. He blurted out everything he knew, laying it

all out on the table.

Once Nerissa got the full story, she didn’t show any emotion at all. She just turned to Hunter and asked, “Grandpa, what’s the full name of your company?”
