Chapter 58 The Acquisition Document
Nerissa’s tone was calm, betraying no hint of emotion.
Somehow, Kennedy, just standing off to the side, felt a chill run down his spine.
She might be young, but her presence was the real deal. If she ever lost her temper, even someone his age would get
nervous.
She was downright terrifying!
Hunter smiled and said, “Nerissa, it’s really not as bad as Kennedy made it sound. Don’t take it to heart.”
“Kennedy, you tell me,” Nerissa said, glancing over at him.
Hunter shot Kennedy a look, signaling him to keep quiet, but Kennedy blurted out, “We work for Double Excellence Property Management, in the cleaning department.”
Hunter was left speechless.
“Okay,” Nerissa said, giving a slight nod.
Kennedy asked, “Nerissa, what’s your plan?”
Nerissa, her voice calm and steady, said, “I’m going to get their property management company a new boss.”
‘A new boss?’ Kennedy was stunned by Nerissa’s words.
He was caught off guard, not quite sure what Nerissa meant.
Hunter instinctively thought Nerissa was about to go to the property management company to fight for him, so he quickly said, “Nerissa, don’t go causing trouble at the property management company!”
Things like this were always messy, and Nerissa was just a young girl. If she really went to confront them, she’d only end up getting bullied.
He was getting on in years, and there were so many things beyond his control now. What he feared most was not being able to keep his granddaughter safe.
“I’m not going to make a scene,” Nerissa said, turning back to Hunter. She was smiling, but her smile made Hunter shiver.” Grandpa, relax. I play fair. I’ll make sure Kane Trelawney cleans your shoes willingly, and apologizes to you and your friends.”
‘Make him apologize?’ Kennedy thought, his eyes widened in disbelief.
‘And make him willingly clean Hunter’s shoes? Is Nerissa for real?’ Kennedy couldn’t help but think.
‘Is she daydreaming?’ Kennedy thought, still in shock.
Kennedy’s eyes widened. “Come on, Nerissa, don’t brag.”
“Grandpa Kennedy, I never brag,” Nerissa replied, her tone calm and steady.
She was fiercely protective.
She couldn’t bear to see Hunter wronged like this.
And she absolutely couldn’t stand seeing Hunter’s friends who had Hunter’s back get mistreated for doing the right thing.
Good people should be rewarded, not lose their jobs!
Kennedy looked at Nerissa and said, “Nerissa, I get that you want to stand up for your grandpa, but you’re still young. You don’t see the whole picture. Kane Trelawney will never apologize or admit he’s wrong. He was our supervisor! And I heard there’s a big shot at the property management company who’s related to his family.”
He continued after a pause, “Nerissa, if you really want to get back at Kane Trelawney for your grandpa, just focus on your studies, get into a great college, and make that jerk green with envy! Who knows, maybe one day you’ll parachute in and become the boss at Double Excellence.”
Why did Kane Trelawney act like he owned the place?
It was all because he’d got powerful connections. No matter how badly he screwed up at work, there was always someone to shield him from the fallout.
Nerissa was only nineteen.
She and Hunter had no power or influence in A Successfully unlocked!he countryside, with no connections or background to speak of.
What could Nerissa possibly have that would make Kane Trelawney bow his head?

Hunter nodded in approval. “Kennedy’s right, Nerissa. Your main focus should be your studies. Let me take care of everything else. Don’t let something so trivial distract you from your schoolwork.”
Nerissa smiled and said, “Grandpa, you really don’t have to worry. Something this minor won’t get in the way of my I’ll go hit the books now.”
studies
“Go ahead,” Hunter said warmly.
Seeing that Nerissa didn’t do anything else, Hunter let out a sigh of relief.
He’d been really worried she might rush off and confront Kane Trelawney on impulse.
Once Nerissa was in her room, she sat down at her desk and booted up her computer.
She started typing away, one hand on the mouse, the other dancing across the keyboard.
Her fingers moved so fast that they were just a blur.
Her skin was fair, her fingers slender and delicate, standing out sharply against the black keyboard.
The file open on Nerissa’s screen was an acquisition document.
Meanwhile.
At the Calloway Group.
Yale knocked and walked in, arms full of paperwork.
“Owen.”
“Hey.” Owen looked up at Yale and asked, “How’d it go?”
Yale shook his head. “The proposal you sent over got sent back by the Linsworth Group.”
“What?” Owen immediately stubbed out his cigarette, his eyes widened with shock.
Yale repeated himself, “Yeah, Owen, you heard me right. The Linsworth Group sent your proposal back.”
“What’s their deal?” Owen frowned. “They should be grateful I even considered partnering with the Linsworth Group! And
they actually dared to turn my proposal down? Am I hearing this right?”
Owen couldn’t believe the Linsworth Group actually had the guts to reject his proposal.
He was the kind of once-in-a-decade dark horse in the business world that the media couldn’t stop talking about.
In Aosthorne, people were practically fighting to partner up with him.
Landing a deal with him was a golden opportunity for the Linsworth Group, but they actually dared to send his proposal back.
‘Ungrateful idiots. They really don’t know a good thing when it’s handed to them!’ Owen fumed.
‘Totally clueless about their own worth!’ Owen thought, his anger rising.
A surge of fury welled up inside Owen.
Yale hesitated and decided to tell the truth. “Mr. Howard Ellery from the Linsworth Group said your proposal had some problems.”
Owen was instantly pissed.
“My proposal has problems?” Owen scoffed. “That brat isn’t even old enough to shave. Who does he think he is to question me?”
When he was making headlines as the business world’s once-in-a-decade dark horse, Howard was still sweating over his college papers.
In Owen’s eyes, Howard couldn’t hold a candle to him.
A rookie like Howard thought he’d got the right to criticize his proposal? What a joke!
‘This is just ridiculous!’ Owen thought.
He was so furious and speechless.
Yale hesitated, nervously licking his lips before speaking. “Owen, have you been pushing yourself too hard lately?”
Yale had already looked over the proposal Owen sent to the Linsworth Group.
There were definitely a few hidden flaws lurking in there.
Flashy but hollow, looked impressive, but there was nothing solid underneath.

All talk, no action. If they actually tried to use it, the whole thing would fall apart.
Totally not Owen’s usual game.
‘Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if Owen was ever the real brains behind those legendary Calloway Group proposals, Yale thought to himself.
The Edrington family and the Calloway family were pretty tight.
To be honest…
Yale had heard whispers about this before.
Back then, Owen’s grandpa wanted Owen to marry Nerissa for two reasons. First, she was considered naturally lucky and pretty. Second, she was a business prodigy. It was Nerissa who had saved the Calloway Group from going under. But back then, Yale just brushed off the rumor with a sneer.
In his eyes, how could some country girl who hadn’t even finished high school have any real business talent? The whole idea was just absurd.
But now, thinking back on that rumor, Yale felt a chill running down his spine.
‘Wait… the guy I’ve always admired might just be all talk when it comes to business, Yale thought, stunned.
‘Turns out, the real dark horse was someone else all along!’ Yale realized, his heart racing.
For a moment, Yale was torn up inside, and his face looked downright grim.
Owen didn’t bother answering Yale’s pointless question. He just rubbed his temples and asked, “Does Frank Ellery know about this?”
Frank Ellery was the president of the Linsworth Group, and Howard’s father.
Yale said, “Mr. Frank Ellery was present when I went over. Honestly, Howard kept dropping hints that he wanted to work with Nerissa.”
Owen snorted, a smirk on his face. “Seriously? They want to team up with Nerissa?”
“Yeah,” Yale nodded, and then said, “Owen, how about putting together another proposal for the Linsworth Group?”
‘Resubmit? Seriously?’ Owen thought, his face showing nothing but disdain.
“The Linsworth Group? Who do they think they are? They don’t even deserve a second proposal from me. I don’t do second chances. If they couldn’t seize the opportunity, that’s on them. They just weren’t cut out for it,” Owen sneered.
‘Just you wait, Owen thought with a cold smirk.
The Linsworth Group would certainly regret it.
‘Who does Nerissa think she is?’ Owen scoffed.
‘Kinsbeat Game? Is that even worth mentioning?’ Owen thought, his eyes full of contempt.
Once he snagged the Celestial Dome Awards, he could squash Kinsbeat Game like a bug with just a flick of his finger. And when that happened, the Linsworth Group would get buried right alongside Kinsbeat Game.
Yale just stared at Owen, nervously licking his lips before finally speaking up. “Owen, don’t you think it’s kind of strange? Ever since Nerissa divorced you and joined Kinsbeat Game, things over there have just kept getting better and better, but…” But the Calloway Group had been falling apart.
These days, Owen couldn’t even come up with a halfway decent proposal.
Yale really didn’t want to say it, but at this point, he had no choice.
“What are you getting at?” Owen snapped, cutting Yale off angrily. “Are you trying to say all the Calloway Group’s success is because of that country girl Nerissa?”
“That’s not what I’m saying, Owen. Don’t take it the wrong way. It’s just… something about all this feels off,” Yale hesitated, and then continued, “Oh, right, I heard Ms. Jenkins has already signed on with Kinsbeat Game.”
‘Ms. Jenkins teamed up with Kinsbeat Game?’ Owen thought, stunned. ‘Seriously? No way!’
Owen snapped back, “Impossible! Ms. Jenkins would never choose Kinsbeat Game. What even is Kinsbeat Game? They’re not even close to our Calloway Group! Even a fool could figure out who Ms. Jenkins would pick! If she really signed with Kinsbeat Game, she wouldn’t have thrown Nerissa and Clive out of the lab in the first place!”
Owen loosened his tie and continued, “I’ve already sent Harrison from the planning department over to Ms. Jenkins’s lab to collect the contract.”

‘Kinsbeat Game? Who the hell do they think they are?’ Owen sneered to himself.
‘Like they could ever compete with me?’ Owen thought, his contempt practically dripping.
Just as Owen finished it, someone appeared at the doorway.
“Mr. Calloway!”
It was Harrison.
As soon as Harrison walked in, Owen perked right up, a grin spreading across his face. ‘Looks like my luck’s finally turning, he thought.
Harrison had headed out to Ms. Jenkins’s lab just two hours ago, and now he was back already. He must’ve nailed it. Ms. Jenkins had probably signed the contract without a second thought. ‘Seems everything’s falling into place, Owen thought smugly.
Owen grinned, barely able to contain himself. “Harrison, hand over Ms. Jenkins’s contract. Let me see it!”
Harrison looked up at Owen with a complicated expression and said, his voice thick with frustration,.”Mr. Calloway, you misunderstood! I didn’t get to see Ms. Jenkins, no contract. Besides, her secretary told me that she had signed with
Kinsbeat Game.” –
