Chapter 59 Nerissa Saw Through His Trick
When Owen heard Harrison’s answer, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
Everyone froze.
It took Owen a while to find his voice. “What did you say? Who did Ms. Jenkins sign with?”
“It’s Kinsbeat Game,” Harrison answered, his voice tight.
Harrison was confused too.
Right now, the Calloway Group had the upper hand. But even so, Ms. Jenkins went with Kinsbeat Game.
‘What’s so special about Kinsbeat Game?’ Harrison wondered.
‘How did they manage to win over both the Stratford Group and Ms. Jenkins?’ he wondered.
Bang!
Owen smashed his fist against the table, his veins popping as his face twisted with fury. “No way! Absolutely no way! Ms. Jenkins would never sign with Kinsbeat Game! Harrison, you have to be wrong!”
Owen refused to believe it.
Yale came over, phone in hand. “Hey Owen, Kinsbeat Game just dropped the official news on Twitter. Guess it’s legit.” Owen grabbed the phone right out of Yale’s hand.
It just went up.
Three minutes in and it’d already got over a thousand comments.
[OMG, Ms. Jenkins is actually teaming up with Kinsbeat Game! The barrier between anime and reality is finally coming down. I’m literally crying!]
[Kinsbeat Game, don’t let me down.]
[Kinsbeat Game is so shady. They know they can’t beat the Calloway Group in gaming, so they went behind everyone’s back and signed Ms. Jenkins. Didn’t she never do commercial collabs? Did they have some dirt on her or what?]
[Seriously, when’s your game dropping?]
[They’re hyping this up so much. If Kinsbeat Game doesn’t deliver, it’s gonna be very embarrassing.]
[Ms. Jenkins must be out of her mind! Anyone with half a brain knows she should’ve picked the Calloway Group. Isn’t she worried about messing up her legacy at this point?]
[Heard the new shareholder at Kinsbeat Game is actually legit. Might be worth keeping an eye on their game. Who knows, maybe they’ll actually win the Celestial Dome Awards this year.]
[What can an investor really do? No matter how good that new shareholder is, there’s no way they can beat Wade. Mr. Calloway is a once-in-a-decade dark horse. With those two powerhouses teaming up, they’re unstoppable. Kinsbeat Game is just gonna end up as a joke!]
[Kinsbeat Game is seriously shady. First they put out fake game screenshots and videos, and now they’ve snatched Ms. Jenkins right before the Calloway Group could. Talk about being shameless! Good thing Mr. Calloway’s got a solid foundation. Even without Ms. Jenkins, the Calloway Group’s game is gonna shine. Every great journey starts with a struggle!]
There were different opinions.
The comment section was packed with both skeptics and people sending their congrats.
Regardless of all the online chatter, Ms. Jenkins teaming up with Kinsbeat Game was already set in stone.
Meanwhile.
Owen’s hand was shaking so hard that he could barely hold onto the phone.
‘I’m supposed to be the once-in-a-decade dark horse in finance!’ Owen gritted his teeth, frustration boiling inside. ‘Has Yvonne Jenkins lost her mind?’ he fumed.
‘Isn’t she worried teaming up with Kinsbeat Game will trash her reputation?’ he wondered.
Owen forced himself to chill out and looked at Yald Arly look haatsk
son who saved Ms. Jenkins?”
Successfully unlocked!
Right now, their only hope was to track down M. Jones aff
If they could just find that mysterious lifesaver, maybe they’d have a shot at sabotaging Kinsbeat Game and getting Ms.

Yale shook his head. “No luck yet.”
Owen narrowed his eyes, his tone sharp. “Keep looking! At any cost, we have to track down Ms. Jenkins’s lifesaver!
“I see. I’ll keep looking,” Yale said quickly.
Owen ran his hand through his hair, looking totally fed up. “And get Nerissa on the phone. Tell her to bring the paperwork for the Kinsbeat Game buyout and meet me.”
Kinsbeat Game had just stolen two deals right out from under the Calloway Group.
Owen needed to buy out Kinsbeat Game ASAP.
Not another second to waste.
Yale just stared at Owen. “Sorry, Owen, but I can’t make that happen. Nerissa’s not the girl who’d drop everything just because you called anymore.”
Yale continued, “Honestly, even if you showed up in person, Nerissa probably wouldn’t even bother to see you.”
Nerissa wasn’t Owen’s shadow anymore. She’d stopped being that lovesick doormat ages ago.
Owen scoffed. “Yale, you’re giving her way too much credit. All this is just her trying to get me to make the first move, to call her. Trust me, if I dial her number, she’ll come running with the Kinsbeat Game buyout papers, no question.”
Yale shook his head. “I don’t think so.”
“Fine! You don’t believe me? Watch, I’ll prove it right now,” Owen snapped, grabbing his phone. “Read me Nerissa’s number.”
Yale pulled out his phone, found Nerissa’s number, and rattled off the digits.
Owen didn’t waste a second, and he dialed right away.
“Watch this, Nerissa will pick up in less than a minute! And once she does, she’ll show up with the Kinsbeat Game buyout papers, and she’ll definitely write me a long love letter!” Owen bragged.
As he finished, his face was full of self-satisfaction.
Writing those sappy love letters to Owen had been Nerissa’s absolute favorite thing.
Sometimes she’d go overboard and write him love letters dozens of pages long.
But Owen had never spared those love letters a single glance.
Owen was off in his own world again, and Yale couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “Why can’t you see it, Owen? Nerissa’s over you. She’s not gonna answer your call, and she sure as hell isn’t gonna help you buy out Kinsbeat Game.”
“If Nerissa doesn’t love me, what, she loves you instead? We’ll see who’s right soon enough!” Owen shot back, full of confidence.
Yale rubbed his temples, looking totally worn out. “You’re right. We’ll see soon enough.”
The phone kept ringing.
“Hello?”
A woman said on the other end of the phone.
Owen gave a smug grin as he shot Yale a look. ‘See? I told you Nerissa would answer!’
‘I knew it, Nerissa’s still crazy about me,’ Owen thought, utterly self-assured.
‘Everything she’s doing is just to get me to remarry her, Owen thought, absolutely certain.
“Nerissa? It’s me, Owen,” he said, his voice icy.
“Not her. You’ve got the wrong number,” the woman said flatly, and then hung up.
Owen blinked at his phone, thrown off for a second. He turned to Yale. “Repeat Nerissa’s number.”
Yale read out the digits once more.
Only then did Owen realize he’d dialed the wrong number. ‘No wonder it didn’t work!’ he thought, feeling a little embarrassed.
He let out a sigh of relief and dialed again. But this time, all he got was a busy tone. He tried calling from the landline, but it was the same story.
Owen forced himself to stay calm. “Nerissa’s just playing hard to get. She wants me to show up in person. If I do, she’ll practically roll out the red carpet and hand me the Kinsbeat Game buyout papers herself.”
‘Yeah, that’s gotta be it, Owen reassured himself.

‘Of course, that’s how it works. No doubt about it; he thought, totally convinced.
Thinking it over, Owen narrowed his eyes. “Nerissa is honestly so pathetic. She knows Audrey is the one I care about, but she still keeps trying to make me come crawling back to her. She doesn’t get it. This just makes me want to stay away from her even more!”
“Even if Nerissa shows up with the Kinsbeat Game buyout papers, maybe I’ll let it slide for now. But getting back together? Not a chance. Audrey’s the only one I care about now,” Owen said, his voice cold and certain.
Yale felt speechless.
At the Pearl Tower, Nerissa sat at the conference table on the third floor.
Across from her was the founder of Double Excellence Property Management, Ryan Locke.
Mr. Locke held up the acquisition papers and looked at Nerissa. “Ms. Jamison, are you sure you want to buy Double Excellence Property Management for two hundred thousand dollars?”
Double Excellence Property Management was a new venture under Mr. Locke’s name, just two years old. Due to poor service for the owners, the company had been struggling to stay afloat ever since it started.
He’d been looking to offload the company for a while, but every potential buyer had tried to lowball him.
Nerissa was the first in ages to offer a reasonable price.
“Yes,” Nerissa said with a small nod.
Mr. Locke grinned. “Since you’re so decisive and really mean business, I’ll get the contract ready right away.”
“Sounds good,” Nerissa said.
Mr. Locke waved his assistant over. “Go print out the acquisition contract as requested by Ms. Jamison.”
The assistant nodded, shared a knowing glance with Mr. Locke, and replied, “Got it, Mr. Locke.”
About half an hour later, the assistant came back with the contract in hand.
He placed the contract on the table in front of Nerissa.
Nerissa grabbed the contract and started skimming through it, barely glancing at each page before flipping to the next.
Mr. Locke was almost convinced she hadn’t even read a single word before turning the page. Seriously, who would go through a contract like that?
‘She’s just showing off, he thought.
‘Acting like she’s some kind of expert when she’s clearly not, he scoffed to himself.
Mr. Locke said with scheming eyes, “Ms. Jamison, this contract’s pretty thick, and there are a bunch of places to sign. I’ll just show you where, and you can sign as we go.”
That was it.
This contract was definitely shady.
Seeing how young Nerissa looked, Mr. Locke pegged her as a total rookie when it came to legal stuff. So he had secretly texted his assistant to slip in a few tricks and tweak the contract.
On the surface, it was supposed to be an acquisition. But in reality, Nerissa was just a so-called partner, not even a real shareholder.
If the company ever started raking in cash, Nerissa wouldn’t get a dime.
And if the company ever got into trouble, like tax fraud or anything shady, Nerissa would be the one taking the fall and landing behind bars, while Mr. Locke would be totally off the hook.
Mr. Locke watched Nerissa anxiously, waiting to see how she’d respond.
“Hand me the pen,” Nerissa said, calm and collected.
Mr. Locke let out a sigh of relief.
‘Knew it. This girl is totally clueless about what she’s signing,’ he thought, feeling pretty smug.
‘If she had even half a clue, there’s no way she’d be rushing to sign like this,’ he snickered to himself.
He shoved the pen toward Nerissa, barely containing his excitement. “Ms. Jamison, just sign here.”
‘Come on, just sign already, he thought, practically giddy.
Once Nerissa scribbled her name on that contract, it was game over. She’d be locked in legally, and he could pull whatever

stunt he wanted. No matter what happened, she’d be the sucker taking the fall.
Nerissa grabbed the pen and started signing, flipping through the contract pages without missing a beat.
Watching her breeze through page after page, Mr. Locke was practically crying with triumph deep down.
‘This rookie doesn’t even know what she’s signing, and she thinks she can buy out my company?’ he snorted to himself.
‘What a joke,’ he thought, rolling his eyes secretly.
About three minutes later, Nerissa put the pen down and passed the contract to Mr. Locke. “All done.”
“Perfect,” Mr. Locke could barely contain his excitement as he grabbed the contract eagerly. He jumped to his feet, stuck out his hand to Nerissa, and said with a smug grin, “Congrats, Ms. Jamison. You’re officially part of Double Excellence Property Management now.”
Nerissa stared him down, totally unfazed, and said, “Mr. Locke, unless I’m mistaken, I came here to buy Double Excellence Property Management. So what’s with the whole ‘welcome to the team’ thing?”
“Buyout? What buyout?” Mr. Locke waved the contract, faking surprise. “Ms. Jamison, did you even read what you signed? This isn’t a buyout contract at all!”
With her signature on the contract, it was locked in, no way out now, even if Nerissa wanted to backtrack.
Nerissa just flashed a cool, unbothered smile, not a hint of panic on her face. “Is that so? Then why don’t you see for yourself, Mr. Locke? Check out what I actually signed.”
Mr. Locke opened up the contract right away.
The moment he saw Nerissa’s signature, his smug grin vanished, replaced by a look of utter shock, like he’d just seen a ghost.
Nerissa’s voice was cold. “I’ve flagged every shady clause in this contract. Go print a new one and show me you’re serious about this deal. You only get one chance.”
