Chapter 122
While the world was in chaos, Jason just woke up from a hotel bed. He was hungover. He didn’t go home. His phone was dead. He didn’t go to work. The upheaval at Horizon Group was completely unknown to him.
Ryan found him and broke the news; it was a thunderbolt.
Xander was at a lunch meeting. As he got into his car, Zane handed him some juicy gossip involving me.
He read it calmly. His face, seemingly normal, radiated an intangible chill. He no longer cared for anyone, unapologetically exuding the powerful aura of an Alpha.
‘Since the Winter and Cooper families are so lovey–dovey, they won’t be short of funds. Let’s halt their loan application.”
He spoke lightly, yet his tone was unusually sharp.
We’ve already released the first installment, and the second is about to be released. Halting it now might break their capital chain and kill the project.”
‘Are you underestimating them? This is Jason and Tanner’s love project! They’ll sell their kidneys and blood to keep it afloat. I have
faith in them.”
Zane’s palms were sweating, his wolf silently roared, “MR. SHAW, WE CAN’T LET PERSONAL FEELINGS CLOUD OUR JUDGMENT!”
He was concerned that Mr. Shaw, newly returned from abroad, would be seen as targeting his deputies if he stopped the project. The money had already been approved by the VP and everyone invoked. But his concerns were futile; Xander had made up his
mind.
On the way back to the company, he issued instructions for a re–evaluation, citing recent negative publicity surrounding the project company that might affect repayment, thus requiring re–assessment.
As for whether the second review would pass… everyone understood. It depended entirely on the Young Master’s mood. MoonCloud Pack’s alpha, indulging in a whim, was like teasing a puppy begging for food. He could choose not to feed it.
At that moment, Jason was still oblivious.
Henry and Vera were at the Cooper residence, having a meal with the jubilant Cooper family. Tanner sat affectionately beside Vera, weetly calling her “Mom” in a way that sent shivers down her spine.
Vera smiled mechanically, looking like a puppet. Her wolf’s fear of Tanner had completely drained her, leaving her unable to resist. Henry was displeased with Vera’s unilateral decision; they had argued on the way there, but later, he’d calmed down, knowing it was done. He had to accept the alliance with the Coopers. It was my fault; I’d rejected the opportunity. He’d given me a chance, but
I hadn’t taken it.
Where did Jason go? Why can’t we reach him? Is he still with Sophia? That shameless slut!” Tanner’s jealousy was evident, her tone over–the–top, portraying me as a homewrecker.
Not only her, but the entire Cooper family was overacting. They were all accusing me with righteous indignation, seemingly having forgotten that I’d been the third party and slapped in the face.
‘Omegas like Sophia use their bodies to make money. Jason shouldn’t have fallen for such a penniless omega.*
“She has a vixen’s face, clearly not a decent person.”
I feel degraded even talking about her.”
