Xander:“Make her break that habit,
“Okay, I’ll make her break it,” I replied. “He has sharp ears. What’s wrong with my former subordinate calling me Manager Wells on the phone? What’s wrong with her inviting me to lunch?
Xander continued walking, entering his office. sighed deeply.
Zane stared thoughtfully at the closed door to Mr. Shaw’s office. His wolf cautiously guessed, “IS MR. SHAW… FRUSTRATED?”
He turned, offering me sympathetic comfort. “It’s not your fault. Men can be difficult to control sometimes, like during menopause.”
*Internal monologue: What’s so uncontrollable about that? Isn’t being petty a woman’s innate talent?
Seeing my puzzled expression, Zane said, “Don’t worry, I’ll help you.”
“HELP? HOW? ARE WE EVEN THINKING ABOUT THE SAME THING?” My wolf was even more confused.
Noon.11:20.
I drove away from the company. The restaurant was near Horizon Group; it took about twenty–seven minutes to drive there. It was a Japanese restaurant; the company often held gatherings there.
There was some traffic, so I arrived at Hidden Spring around noon. The restaurant owner greeted me and told me Mandy was in the
Mien room.
I went inside.*Why such a large private room for just the two
of us?
As I reached the room, my hand hesitated before reaching for the handle. I paused thoughtfully.
The door opened.
“Manager Wells.” Mandy appeared at the doorway and pulled me inside.
I was about to say I’d overthought it when someone emerged from behind the screen. It was Jason!
‘Oh, you invited me to lunch to use me as bait for Jason?”
I sneered and turned to leave. Jason stepped forward, blocking my path, gesturing for Mandy to leave.
Mandy gave me an apologetic look, but I didn’t look at her. I wouldn’t give a second glance to someone why betrayed me.
Feeling distressed, Mandy bowed her head and quickly left the room.
‘Get out of my way!” I said coldly, my eyes filled with ice and deep disgust.
If he had severed the bond with me cleanly, I wouldn’t have cared how vicious Tanner was. I would have considered the seven years wasted, and moved on. Or if he had remained remorseful and awakened, at least he’d done some good things before the bonding severance. After the severance, we could go our separate ways, and I wouldn’t hold a grudge.
But he betrayed me and then tried to act sentimental. He said he only loved me, yet allowed Tanner to get pregnant. Werewolves can’t bear betrayal followed by an apology, only to be betrayed again.
He witnessed how vicious Tanner was. That night, he sat by her bedside, crying, repenting, making me believe he had truly changed… Hah, who knew that after she got pregnant, he changed his mind.
The disgust was like being repeatedly fed excrement. His affection for anyone was fake; he only loved himself. His destined mate should be himself!
‘I want… Jason dared not look into my eyes.“To say a few things.”
