“Ms. Wells, have some shrimp Xander peeled a prawn and placed it on my plate.
I paused. Then, I responded enthusiastically, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
After I ate the shrimp, he served me some pan–seared lamb chops.“Ms. Wells, have some meat.”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
“Ms. Wells, have some soup,” he served me a bowl of soup.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
“Ms. Wells…”
“Yes, yes! Thank you, thank you!”
“…” I was stuck on “thank you.” I bit my chopsticks, turning my head and closing my eyes slightly.“I SPOKE TOO SOON,” my wolf regretted.
Xander watched me with amusement, a smile playing on his lips. After a long pause, he said, “No need to thank me. Peel some shrimp for me.”
I turned back, putting down my chopsticks.“Okay, okay, I’ll peel them for you.”
I began diligently peeling shrimp, one after another, one after another. The prawns were large; in under two minutes, a small mountain of peeled shrimp formed before him.
Xander:… He picked one up and ate it, sighing. He raised his eyelids.“I just came here to eat, I’m not selling you to Myanmar after this meal. Don’t be so nervous.”
I looked at him like I didn’t understand. “No, why would I be nervous? Mr. Shaw, eat your shrimp quickly; they’ll get cold.”
Xander:…
“…” I felt myself crumbling.
Xander silently ate his shrimp.
After we were almost finished, I quickly grabbed the bill. “Mr. Shaw, thank you so much. My gratitude is beyond words. This is on
me.”
Xander’s face subtly hardened. “Ms. Wells, your bridge–demolition skills rival a professional construction crew.
“…” I awkwardly pursed my lips.
Xander expressionlessly got up and left. His wolf could no longer maintain its composure. “WHEN WILL YOU LEARN TO SPEAK PROPERLY?”
I got up and followed, quickly paying the bill, and rushing to the driver’s seat outside. Zane had left after dropping us off. Going back… As a secretary, could I let Mr. Shaw drive and sit in the back? If a sharp–eyed colleague saw us, they’d think I put some sort of spell on Xander. If I sat beside him… I’d be labeled his secret lover.
Xander’s low pressure continued from the restaurant to the company. He wanted to ask about Jason, but seeing my unwillingness to connect with him, he found himself ridiculous. He warned himself and his wolf, not to overthink it, “SHE DIDN’T WANT TO OWE US ANYTHING.”
Back at the company, Zane saw us return so quickly and thought, Mr. Shaw still has a bottom line. He’d asked him to go home first; he thought… he wanted to take advantage of the situation“. If anything had happened, he probably wouldn’t have returned
this afternoon.
I went into my office.

Sophia, 1 took your keys from your bag. I brought your car back,” Zane returned my car keys. She didn’t even realize how bold she was, hugging Mr. Shaw so tightly. If I didn’t know the circumstances, I would think she was interested in him, trying to seduce
him.”
I was grateful. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Zane said, concerned.“Are you feeling better? Should you take the afternoon off to rest?”
“No, I’m fine.” This wasn’t something that could be solved by resting.
Seeing that I really seemed fine, Zane left.
Five o’clock, time to leave work. I called Summer. She was at her law firm, working late, so I planned to go there directly.
Before I even left the parking garage, my phone rang. It was Xander.
