This is the time he calls… It’s probably overtime.
I pulled over and answered the phone.“Hello, Mr. Shaw.”
‘Come up.” A steady, somewhat serious voice came from the other end.
‘…Okay.”
Hanging up, I drove back and parked, returning upstairs. After putting my bag back in the office, I hurried to Xander’s office. Standing at the door, I took a few deep breaths to calm my racing heart before knocking and entering.
Xander was closing his laptop and getting up. He looked up at me and said casually, “You’re quite efficient at leaving work.”
‘…“DID HE SEE US LEAVE?” My wolf wasn’t sure. It was impossible; his office door was closed, and I’d glanced at it when I left. But then I realized, touching my hot face. Our offices were so close, and I was slow and sweaty. Sigh…
‘I had something to do today, so I left on time,” I added “on time” to indicate that while I left at the precise time, I didn’t leave early.
‘In a hurry?” He asked casually. He went to the clothes rack, took his suit, and calmly put it on. His usual actions were imbued with a unique elegance. His excellent physique enhanced his alpha presence.
‘Naturally, your matters take precedence,” I replied with a smile.
Xander adjusted his sleeves, looking at me again.“Don’t worry about me. If you have something urgent, tell me.” His tone was unusually gentle. When his peach blossom eyes looked at you, they held a tender warmth that was easy to be charmed by.
‘Mr. Shaw, please tell me what you need,” I said steadily.
‘Mm, Ms. Wells is still very professional.” Xander nodded with smile.
Heh, I knew you were setting a trap for me, I thought. His initial tone was already displeased; how could he possibly care about my schedule later? The “in a hurry” and “don’t worry about me” were just to see my attitude. He loved digging pits for others, coaxing hem in, then trapping them and slowly eliminating them… “HE’D ACTUALLY BE GOOD AT RUNNING A SCAM.” My wolf is rying to challenge authority again.
Xander explained the reason for calling me:“There’s a business reception; accompany me.” He picked up his phone and walked out
I followed him. Temporary? Who would accept a last–minute invitation? Who was this person?
Outside, Zane was coming from the assistant’s office. “Mr. Shaw.”
Nothing else today. You can go home,” Xander said and walked on.
Zane was happy to leave, but seeing my despair as I rushed back to my office and then back out, he asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
I have to accompany him to a business reception.”
There’s no such arrangement in today’s schedule.”
There is now.”
…” They whispered for a few minutes.
In front of the elevator, Xander stood with his back to us. When the elevator arrived, he went in first, followed by us.
I felt gloomy. If not for what happened at lunch, I would have been happy to go with him. With my new identity, I could rebuild relationships with people I knew and those I didn’t.
But today, I had something more important. After the initial anger subsided, I’d been thinking about the letter of forgiveness. I’d already thought it over and planned to discuss it with Summer.
Seeing my gloomy expression, Zane thought for a moment and boldly spoke to Xander, “Mr. Shaw, perhaps I should accompany
