Eight Years of Maybe One Day of I Do—Bride Swapped Deal With It novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Caspian moved into the company’s emergency crash pad near the office.

Guess my sudden wedding announcement made him feel suffocated.

Fine. We both needed some peace.

I quietly handled everything.

I listed our apartment on a realtor’s site.

The afternoon I handed over the keys, I was packing up random stuff at home.

I found a project file tucked inside an old magazine.

Glanced at it-one of Caspian’s current deals.

After hesitating for a moment, I decided to to drop it off.

When I got there, his door was shut.

Voices inside. Laughter. More than one person.

I raised my hand to knock.

A familiar voice floated out, all helpless and sweet:

“Mr. Reid, this is all my fault.”

“First time catching a bouquet-I had no idea. Now the whole company group chat’s going crazy. People keep asking me if you and I are…”

“You have to clear this up in the group, or I’ll be too embarrassed to face everyone at work.”

My hand froze mid-air.

Before Caspian could answer, one of his boys cut in with a teasing laugh.

“Juniper, are you really asking Caspian to clear things up? Or are you fishing for him to say something else?”

A wave of knowing laughter.

Juniper giggled, all coy.

“Stop it~” No real protest in her voice.

“Alright, leave her alone.” Caspian’s voice. Casual. Indulgent.

“Don’t worry about it. People will forget in a few days.”

That line hit me like a slap.

Back when I used to help him with errands at the office.

He forgot where we were, casually slung his arm around my shoulder.

Some coworker saw.

That same afternoon, he posted a simple clarification in the company group chat.

He told everyone not to misunderstand and to focus on work.

I understood back then.

To avoid unnecessary gossip, I stopped going to his company.

My fingertips went cold.

Maybe what he minded was never office romance itself.

It was just… being seen with ME-a woman who did nothing for his career.

Another guy spoke up, confused.

“By the way, bro, what happened with Thea? I got a wedding invitation from her this morning. That was way too sudden!”

Silence.

Caspian let out a short laugh. No warmth in it.

“Let her do whatever.”

“I’ve been patient with her little tantrums.”-

“But this time, she needs to learn. Throwing a fit doesn’t fix anything.”

“Whoa,” someone teased, “so the groom’s definitely skipping out?”

Caspian didn’t answer, basically confirmed it.

Then another voice, hesitant, testing the waters.

“Dude, you really wanna let it get this bad? You and Thea have been together forever. We’ve been waiting to toast at your wedding for years…”

“You’re being this stubborn… don’t tell me you’ve got other plans? Like… our Secretary Juniper here?”

“Mr. Smith” Juniper’s voice stretched out, all giggly.

“Don’t joke like that. Mr. Reid… he knows what he’s doing.”

Caspian didn’t deny it.
