Eight Years of Maybe One Day of I Do—Bride Swapped Deal With It novel Chapter 50

Chapter 5

Dominic stood frozen, his eyes darting between the urn and my face.

“Dead… he’s dead?”

His voice came out rough.

“How is that possible? Three days ago he was fine…”

“Yeah, three days ago he was fine.” I looked at him calmly:

“If that two hundred grand had gone through on time, he’d be out of surgery by now, recovering in the ICU.”

“Too bad Secretary Cross thought the format was wrong.”

“Too bad Mr. Thorne thought I was scamming him.”

The air around us went still.

Elena’s face drained of color as she ducked behind Dominic.

“Dominic, I really didn’t know… I thought she was just making excuses to buy designer bags like before…”

Dominic took a deep breath, trying to regain control:

“Why didn’t you come straight to me about something this serious?”

“If you’d just asked nicely, would I have said no?”

“You had to go through the system, had to pick a fight with Elena-Hadley, YOU wasted the time yourself!”

Ha. That’s Dominic Thorne for you.

Never wrong. Not ever.

Even with a dead body in front of him, he could still pin the blame on me.

I didn’t ask nicely?

I was picking a fight?

But I was done arguing. Too tired.

“Sure. It’s all my fault.” I nodded:

“So I’m leaving. I won’t be an eyesore anymore. Give me back my suitcase.”

Dominic stepped on the clothes scattered on the ground-right on that yellowed white T-shirt.

“Leave? Where do you think you’re going?”

“Hadley, don’t think you can use a dead person to manipulate me. You’re coming back with me!”

3200

He reached for me. I dodged, grabbed his wrist, and dragged him straight toward the stairs.

“What are you fucking doing? LET GO!!”

I ignored him and hauled him into the walk-in closet.

Elena stumbled after us in a panic. “Hadley, don’t do anything rash…”

I pointed at the massive safe, turned to Elena:

“Open it.”

She didn’t move.

I grabbed a golf club from the corner:

“I said OPEN IT!!”

A loud crash-I slammed it against the cabinet door.

Dominic froze, stunned. He’d never seen me snap like this.

“Hadley, you’ve lost your mind!”

“Are you opening it or not?” I stared at Elena.

Elena was shaking but pressed her finger to the scanner.

Beep.

The door swung open-

A dazzling array of jewelry, Hermès bags, and limited-edition watches packed to the brim.

Dominic sneered.

“See? How have I not been good to you? Everything in here is worth millions.”

“Good to ME?” I laughed.
