End Times Serving with My Beastly Amy
Chapter 443 The Swarm Descends
The middle–aged man let out a weary sigh “Tell me about it. Maybe this is karma. Nobody knows where these zombies actually came from. At least in the movies, they give you an explanation. It’s been months since the apocalypse started, and we still don’t know a thing. Maybe it really is divine punishment
The young man thought for a moment. “Do you think it’s like in the movies? Some mad scientist created a
virus?”
The middle–aged man scoffed. “You said it yourself–that’s the movies. You think people like that actually exist in real life?
“Alright, alright. I don’t know where you find the energy to talk this much. We’re supposed to be patrolling, not hosting a podcast.”
The young man shut his mouth, and the two of them shuffled along until they reached the base of Heningford Base’s outer wall.
The guards on the wall were dozing.
Nobody could blame them for the lax security. For as long as anyone could remember, Heningford Base had been safe. Danger only existed outside, during supply runs.
Over time, their vigilance had naturally dulled.
‘Hey! Hey!”
The two patrolmen were passing beneath the wall when a voice called down from above.
They looked up. A guard was poking his head over the edge. “You two want to come up and play cards? We need a fourth.”
The middle–aged man was about to decline, but the young one’s eyes lit up instantly. “Right now?”
‘Yeah! Hurry up if you’re coming. We’re dying of boredom up here. Someone managed to score a deck of cards a while back.”
‘I don’t know… that doesn’t seem right.”
The young man pressed his lips together. Despite the excitement written all over his face, he still telt a twinge of guilt about abandoning his post.
The guard on the wall let out an exaggerated sigh. “Oh, come on. Nothing ever happens It’s the mi the night–we’ve got to pass the time somehow.”
“Exactly.”
A second head appeared over the ledge. “Are you two coming or not? Our lives are miserable enough already–not enough food, not enough warmth, not enough sleep. You’re telling inc we cant even have a little fun?”
His eyes darted sideways. “If you’re in, both of you come up

“I thought you only needed one more.”
“Who said we only need one? There are a million card games that work with more people. We could play Crazy Eights–the more the merrier.”
The middle–aged man’s resolve crumbled
They exchanged a look, gave in to temptation, and scrambled up the war!
‘Finally. Sit down, sit down.”
The guards had the deck out before they’d even fully settled. “Just keep it quiet. If the higher–ups find out. we’re all screwed.”
‘Yeah, yeah.”
The card game heated up fast, and not a single one of them noticed the strange sounds coming from the distance.
By the time they sensed something was wrong, a nightmarish face had already materialized on top of the wall, silent as a ghost.
‘What… what is that?!”
The middle–aged man glanced up by pure chance–and nearly lost his soul on the spot.
His cards were scattered across the ground. His voice shook so badly it barely qualified as speech. ‘Behind… behind you!”
The others spun around, but it was already too late.
The zombie possessed extraordinary jumping ability. A single leap carried it over the wall and into their midst in the blink of an eye.
‘Ah-!”
One of the guards didn’t even manage a full scream before the zombie lunged, clamping its jaws around
his neck.
Rip!
The wet, sickening sound of skin and muscle tearing open filled the air. Blood sprayed in a crimson ars and the zombie jerked its head sideways, ripping away a chunk of flesh so cleanly you could see the individual muscle fibers
“Zombies! Zombies are inside!”
Panicked screams tore through the night. The guards were no pushovers, but the zombie had caught them completely off guard. By the time they recovered and mounted a counterattack. halt of them were already dead.
