Gulp.
Someone swallowed loudly.
“You’re back.”

Robin looked up at them, then lowered her head again. Using a fork, she lifted a thin slice of meat from the rich, spicy broth and slipped it into her mouth.
“Mm, this one’s a little too spicy,” she mumbled while chewing, giving her review of the meal.
Ella stuck her tongue out, already sweating from the heat. “Mine’s really spicy, too! I shouldn’t have picked this flavor. Next time, I’m getting tomato broth.”
Dane laughed. “You can’t even handle spicy, but you still tried to act tough. Now you can’t take it, huh?”
Travis shook his head. “I should’ve gone for the spiciest one. This one’s kinda bland.”
Klay stared at the hot, steaming food in front of him. He didn’t even dare to touch it.
He felt like he was dreaming!
It had been over a month since the apocalypse. Forget about fondue. He hadn’t even had a single full meal!
Every time he got a piece of bread, he’d carefully tear it in half just to make it last longer, hoping to trick his stomach into not feeling so empty…
But now, right in front of him, was a self–heating fondue!
Before, it wouldn’t have been a big deal.
But in the apocalypse? This was a total luxury!
The warm steam kept rising. Maybe it was just his imagination, but his vision started to blur.
“It’s ready. Dig in.” Steven saw him just sitting there and reminded him.
Klay’s jaw dropped. “Steven, do you guys always eat like this?”
They looked like they were used to this kind of food. Like it wasn’t a big deal.
Steven paused, then immediately got what he meant.
He smiled. “Of course not. Our lives only got better after we started following Robin three days

“You have no idea. Before she showed up, we barely had anything to eat. We almost starved to death here. If it wasn’t for her, you probably wouldn’t even see us now.”
Klay looked surprised. “Three days ago? So you guys weren’t together from the start?”
“Nope.”
Jerome chimed in, “We only met Robin three days ago, too. It’s actually just Robin, Ella, Dane, and Tim who are the original group. The five of us are like you–we just joined them recently.”
Abe grinned and picked up a slice of tripe, crunching on it. “Kid, gotta say, you guys are really lucky. Back then, we had to pass a pretty tough test just to join them.
“But you’re even luckier than them. Robin clearly sees you as one of her own now, so you get to eat this good stuff. Those people don’t.”
Steven subtly nodded toward Martin’s group.
The ten of them sat there, each holding a self–heating fondue, eating like no one else was around.
They chatted and laughed. The atmosphere was great.
Meanwhile, Martin’s group was dumbfounded.
Wait…
Why is their food so good?!
Meat fondue!
In a world like this, was that even allowed to exist?
“Captain Bax, they-”
Someone ran over to Martin, his eyes practically turning green with envy. “Why does Klay get to eat that too?!”
Martin glanced around and saw his entire group staring at the other side of the room, some were sneaking glances, while the others just openly staring.
He gave a helpless smile.
He already understood what Robin was doing.
Sure, they had agreed to join her zoo, but it was mostly because they had nowhere else to go.
