Chapter 170 Is This Really the Team He Wanted?
Finished
Not long after Wayne walked out, faint sounds of a zombie disturbance drifted in from outside, along with a man’s bloodcurdling scream.
Then, just as quickly, everything fell silent again.
The people from the sixth floor finally came down.
They must have already pieced together what happened upstairs. When they saw that only Robin and the two kids were on the second floor, Serena merely shot her a resentful glare and didn’t dare say anything
more.
Robin couldn’t be bothered with them either. She simply closed her eyes to rest.
Serena, is she really as strong as you said?”
A burly man couldn’t help whispering, “She looks like just some ordinary girl. And those two kids next to her don’t look threatening at all. You’re not just scared and trying to bluff us, are you?”
Serena’s expression changed instantly, like she was facing a serious threat. “Lower your damn voice!”
she cautiously glanced toward Robin. Only after confirming they weren’t paying attention did she glare iercely at the man. “If you want to die, I won’t stop you, but don’t drag the rest of us down with you!”
The man shut his mouth awkwardly, though his eyes still drifted over from time to time, clearly inconvinced.
I’m warning you, don’t try anything stupid.”
Serena sneered. “Even the captain couldn’t get the upper hand against her. Who the hell do you think you tre?”
The man’s face stiffened. Just as he was about to argue, Wayne came back upstairs.
Wayne?” Serena said in surprise.
Weren’t you tied up? Who untied you? And why are you coming from outside?”
It seemed Dennis had slipped away on his own, and Serena had no idea.
Wayne kept his expression steady. “The rope wasn’t tight, so I managed to get out with a bit of res hiique
and went downstairs to use the bathroom.”
Serena let out a breath of relief. “Good thing you’re not infected Looks like that wound really wasn’t frond
a zombie.
“Oh, right, did you see Dennis? He said he was going to the bathroom too, but he still hasn’t come back
Wayne shook his head calmly. “Didn’t see him Maybe he wandered too but and can into some trouble
“So annoying”
One of them said impatiently. “It’s bad enough we got nothing out of this trip. Now Dennis has disappeared too. Who does he think he is, making all of us wait for him?”
‘Give him three more minutes. Serena said.
If he’s not back by then, we leave.”
Wayne paused. “Shouldn’t we go look for him?
“Why would we?”
Someone scoffed. “We’re all adults. He just went to the bathroom, and if he hasn’t come back by now, he probably ran into something. Why should we waste time searching for a dead man?”
“Exactly.”
Another chimed in, “We’re a team, and we help each other. But that doesn’t mean we sacrifice everyone for one person.”
He said it without hesitation, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
But the coldness in his tone made Wayne clench his fists.
‘Alright.”
He nodded slowly, as if thinking something through. Ifhe’s not back in three minutes, then we leave.”
No one took the matter seriously. Wayne sat alone in the corner, suddenly recalling how Robin had reacted earlier. When she heard from the little boy that there might be a Level 3 zombie nearby, she rushed out without hesitation.
When she learned a companion might be in danger, even knowing it could be a Level 3 zombie, her first instinct was still to go save them. That was what a real team should look like.
When he first joined the Redwood Military Base, he had wanted comrades–people who would fight side by side, who wouldn’t abandon each other no matter the danger.
