Chapter 188 Change of Tune
Fimshed
His back slammed into the wall. The momentum whipped his head hard against the surface, and stars exploded across his vision.
Past his ear, the ice blade whipped by and buried itself into the wall, sending out a sharp, resonant ring that cut clean through the silence.
Robin had one hand clamped around his throat, her gaze bearing down on him from above. Her half- smile didn’t reach her eyes.
“Commander Clark,” she said, “Do you still want me to come back with you?”
It happened so fast that sheer terror nearly shattered Hector’s mind.
Behind Robin, the battlefield came into Hector’s peripheral view, and what he found gutted him. Every single person he’d brought was down without exception, some unconscious, some critically wounded, the whole scene an absolute ruin.
Serena struggled to lift even her fingers. Pure dread filled her eyes.
Robin’s abilities had always struck her as extraordinary. But she’d never once imagined that everything Robin’d shown before wasn’t even close to her full strength.
“You…”
That iron grip crushed Hector’s airway, and what little air he had left in his lungs was nearly spent.
His face flushed a deep, furious crimson, and the veins in his forehead stood out visibly.
Both hands clawing frantically at Robin’s wrist, he forced a single word up from his crushed throat. But no matter how hard he grabbed and scratched, her hand didn’t budge even an inch.
Hector had come out with them as their direct superior. His standing was anything but ordinary.
If anything happened to him today, their futures would be all but finished, even if Robin spared them out of mercy.
Desperate, Serena cried out. “Show some mercy!
“You can’t kill him. Commander Clark represents the entire Redwood Military Base, and if he dies, our base won’t let you walk away from this!
“On top of that, you’ll become Central Command’s most wanted. Central Command doesn’t just have our base under it. There are four others, and crossing us means crossing all of them!
“I know you’re powerful, but even you can’t take on all five bases alone. We got off on the wrong foot, and since you don’t want to join our base, we won’t push it. We can work together instead…”
“Hmm?”
Robin’s grip eased just a fraction.

Chapter 188 Change of Tune
Finished
Thin streams of fresh air rushed in. Hector seized the opening, forcing his mouth wide and gasping with every last bit of strength he had.
Seeing that Robin seemed to have been swayed, Serena let out a small breath of relief. “We can work together. Strike a deal…
“We overstepped today. We didn’t know our place, and your frustration is completely valid. But this world’s brutal enough already. Why make another enemy when you could make a friend instead?”
She looked up at Robin with a careful, placating smile.
Serena’s words caught Robin off guard. She hadn’t expected that at all.
Serena always came across as utterly spineless under normal circumstances. But at a moment like this, her mind moved with surprising speed.
“You’ve got a point.”
Robin pulled her hand back cleanly. Hector’d just teetered on the razor’s edge of death, and now, suddenly free, he crumpled against the wall and slid to the floor.
He clutched his throat, coughing and wheezing with everything he had. He was an absolute wreck, stripped of every last shred of dignity, and it was almost painful to witness.
Every time Robin thought about her past life and Martin dying at the hands of someone like this, the revulsion in her chest was impossible to hold back.
Martin’d be back soon enough, anyway. Whatever score existed between the two of them, she’d leave that for Martin to settle.
In a way, it’d be revenge for the him of that

“Sparing you is not entirely out of the question.”
Robin crouched down and pressed the frost–laden ice blade laxily against Hector’s throat. The threat couldn’t have been clearer.
“Your base’s population. The number of ability users, their abilities, and their names.
“Put together a list of all that for me. That shouldn’t be too hard for you, should it?”
