Chapter 202 Driven By Impulse

Fingbed

Humiliation turned into rage in an instant. Noah crossed the distance to Zelda in three strides and drove his palm across her face.

The impact rang out sharp and clean, cuting through the surrounding noise like a crack of thunder. Zelda’s hand flew to her cheek, and she went utterly silent.

It took a long moment for her to surface. Her eyes stretched wide with disbelief. “Noah!

“You actually hit me. You had the nerve to hit me!”

Zelda’s fury flared. “What gives you the right to put your hands on me? Don’t you dare forget how you even got that patrol position.

“If it weren’t for me…”

The words never made it out. Noah’s face darkened, and his hand came down again before she could finish.

His face went cold and still, his eyes sharp with warning. “Zelda, being my girlfriend doesn’t give you the right to embarrass me in public.

“A patrol officer’s rank isn’t something you get to tear down with your tantrums.

“You’re nothing. Act like it!”

Zelda pressed her hand harder against her cheek, trembling with rage.

But Noah was right, and that was the most infuriating part. He had power now, however small, and every last scrap of it existed because of her. If she hadn’t let Noah use her as a stepping stone….

The memory of that degradation settled over her like a physical weight. She clenched her jaw until her teeth ached.

She’d given everything, and he’d taken every benefit for himself,

self.

carry.

She still needed him, and that truth was the most unbearable thing she’d ever had to carr

Satisfied that she’d finally gone still, Noah exhaled and turned back with venom in his voice. “What are all of you standing around for? There are this many of you, and you still can’t handle one woman?”

As it turned out, no. They genuinely couldn’t.

Nobody could even piece together what had happened. It had all moved too fast, a cascade of motion that left no room for comprehension, and when awareness finally caught up, bodies were strewn across the ground in every direction.

They clutched themselves and moaned where they’d fallen, the whole scene tipping from grim into something almost absurd.

Noah stared. Something had gone very wrong. “You… you’re an ability user?”.

Robin extraled, completely unimpressed. “Took you long enough, didn’t it?”

Noah’s throat worked. Fine. This base isn’t short on ability users.

“Don’t think for a second that you can act however you want here. Once I file a report, you won’t be in this base much longer!”

“Is that right?”

Robin turned casually toward an empty corner and raised her hand in a lazy, unhurried wave. “I know you’ve been tailing us this whole time. The entertainment’s over. You can step out now.

“Or is this really how your base treats its guests?”

Noah stared at her, completely disoriented. “What are you doing?

“And what guests? What are you even talking about?”

Robin didn’t answer. A beat passed, and two figures stepped out from the shadows, both visibly uncomfortable.

Noah’s eyes landed on the insignia on their sleeves, and an involuntary sound escaped him. “Enforcers…”

His whole bearing collapsed into something sycophantic and small. “Enforcers, I had no idea you were out here. You should’ve said something beforehand. I would’ve prepared properly…”

They walked straight past him without acknowledgment and came to a stop in front of Robin. Both of them inclined their heads with quiet, unmistakable respect. “Ms. Neel, we owe you an apology for what happened here.”

The deference in their posture left both Noah and Zelda staring like they’d lost the ability to process what they were seeing.

Zelda had forgotten entirely about the burning sting across her cheek. “What… what is going on? Why are you treating her like that?”

Envy surged through her with a force she couldn’t contain. “Robin, no wonder you were so brazen,” she said, her voice laced with poison. “Looks like you really do have your ways. Even the Enforcers…”

She never finished.

One of the Enforcers raised a hand, and a violent concussive force tore through the air between them. Zelda’s scream was cut short as she was launched clean off her feet.

Noah stood motionless, completely hollowed out.

“Enforcers, I don’t understand what’s happening. You don’t have to take things this far…”

“Don’t have to take things this far?”

One of the enforcers let out a cold, humorless laugh, his voice sharp and cutting. Use your eyes. This woman is an honored guest of our base. She’s our partner.
