Chapter 279 Fire, Steel, and Doubt
Boom!
Robin drove the armored vehicle straight ahead. She didn’t slow down at all. Cars blocking road were smashed aside and sent flying.
The loud crash quickly drew the attention of nearby zombies.
“Garrghhh!”
One zombie snapped its head toward them. Its pale gray eyes gave off a strange, eerie shine.
There weren’t many people living near the edge of the city. That meant fewer zombies too.
And for zombies, the key to evolving was simple-food.
The more humans they ate, the faster they evolved.
So the ones wandering around here were just the weakest kind. Nothing to worry about.
When a zombie rushed toward them, Robin didn’t even flinch. She hit it head-on and drove right over it.
Compared to the weight of the armored vehicle, the zombie was like a tiny ant.
It hadn’t evolved, so its bones were brittle. The impact shattered it completely. When it flew into the air, its body looked soft and limp, like a sack of flour.
It hit the ground and was crushed again. Completely destroyed.
It was a disgusting sight, but it didn’t stop the others. More and more zombies swarmed toward them.
“I haven’t been to Ravenholt many times,” Robin said. “Stay sharp, everyone.”
As they drove deeper into the city, the number of zombies chasing them kept growing.
In the end, it looked like a marathon crowd-long, packed, and stretching far behind them.
Ella glanced back and laughed. “Back before the apocalypse, the girls chasing Mr. Henry could line up just like this.”
Henry was puzzled. “What?”
He turned his head and froze for a second. Outside the window, a fast mutant zombie clung

tightly to the armored vehicle.
Before the apocalypse, she might have been a cute girl.
Her hair was dark brown, tied into two braids. She wore a school uniform. She looked livel full of energy.
But one of her braids had been torn off, ripping part of her scalp with it. A white skull show underneath.
Her nose and upper lip were gone. You could clearly see the flesh and veins beneath.
Henry had seen so many zombies that nothing really shocked him anymore.
But after Ella’s joke, something about this hit different. A cold chill ran through him.
Dylan nodded seriously from the side. “Mr. Henry really had it good before the apocalypse.
Henry shot him a look. “You want that kind of luck? You can have it.”
He pulled out a lighter and flicked it on. Then he blew toward the zombie.
The tiny flame burst outward. In an instant, the zombie was swallowed by fire and burned to nothing.
“Mr. Henry, you got stronger!” Ella said, clearly impressed.
But Henry didn’t look happy.
His explosions were powerful. Fast. Deadly.
But they all depended on one thing. High heat. Like just now.
Without the lighter, his ability would be almost useless.
“What’s the point of getting stronger?” he muttered, rubbing his forehead.
Ever since Robin figured out how his ability worked, he’d been training with Klay.
Together, they were extremely powerful.
Klay could fight on his own just fine.
But without Klay, Henry needed something else to work with.
Klay could stand on his own, but he had to rely on something.
