“Now that he’s turned into a zombie, he still does the same thing every day like clockwork, walking from the first floor of Hawthorne Hall up to the fourth, then back down again At least three rounds a day, morning, noon, and night. And he feels…different from the other zombies.”
“Different?”
Robin was intrigued. “How so?”
The student racked his brain. “I can’t really explain it. It’s just a feeling..”
Another student cut in, “He feels kind of smart!”
“Yeah, yeah, exactly!”
The first student nodded hard. “It’s like he’s really smart!”
Smart…
Robin’s gaze darkened.
If you could feel intelligence from a zombie, there was only one explanation.
It had already evolved enough to develop awareness.
In her past life, any zombie with awareness had reached at least Level 5.
But that didn’t make sense.
With the destructive power of a Level 5 zombie, forget these students–even this entire school might not still be standing.
And yet these students were living here just fine. They had even gone out for a walk earlier.
“Level 5 zombie?”
Sharon frowned, doubtful. “Is it really that strong? Just now…Nathan and I were hiding in a classroom. It walked right past outside and didn’t notice us at all…”
If there had still been any doubt before, Sharon’s words erased it completely. Robin was now certain that the dean was very likely a Level 5 zombie.
“W–why…”
Robin’s voice turned cold. “At Level 5, even if you’re hiding in a classroom, it can still smell you through a
wall.
“It knew you were in there the whole time.”
“What?”

Sharon broke out in a cold sweat.

“It’s because it already ha intelligence that it can suppress its instincts and not attack you. Otherwise, all of you would’ve died by its hands a long time ago!”
The group looked at each other in shock.
Robin fell into thought. “There’s only one possibility. It still has some of its memories left. That’s the only reason you’ve been able to move around this campus so freely. Zombies have a hierarchy. Lower–level zombies don’t have intelligence, but they instinctively obey higher–level ones.
“And on this campus, the dean is the highest–level zombie. The rest all follow its command…”
Robin didn’t finish the sentence.
But everyone understood.
The room fell silent.
Before the apocalypse, the dean had been hated by every student. But after the apocalypse, even as a zombie, he was still protecting them in his own way.
“I used to curse him out all the time…”
One student muttered under his breath.
“Same here. Who didn’t? He never stayed in his office, always wandering the halls like he had nothing better to do…”
He had caught them smoking

more than once and reported them to their parents. They’d gotten beaten
Back then, the dean had been the most hated person in the entire school.
Who would’ve thought, now…
A heavy, somber mood spread through the room. They had just eaten their fill, and everyone had been in a good mood.
But now, it all sank.
“If I remember right…”
One student spoke with difficulty, “When the dean got turned, it was during the emergency evacuation. Someone shoved him…”
Everything had been chaos. The dean had been yelling the whole time, cursing loudly, but he stayed at the very back, letting the students go first.
Then someone pushed him. His heavy body stumbled backward, and within seconds, he was swarmed by zombies.
Seeing the group slump, Yvonne leaned against the couch and said gently, “I know this feels awful, but it’s
