She saw 20 or 30 people come down from the upstairs at once. A big, burly man walked in front, looking fierce. “Thomas! I trusted you and gave you this really important job. Everyone’s safety was in your hands. and this is how you keep watch?!
“Do you even know who they are? You didn’t check at all before letting them go. What if they came to hurt us? Can you take responsibility for that?”
The man named Thomas grew pale. He hurried to explain, “Boss, they were just passing by, and there were only three of them. They don’t look like bad people…”
“So, you’re saying I look like a bad guy?”
“No, no, I didn’t mean that…”
Robin frowned slightly.
She knew there might be people hiding here, but she didn’t expect there to be so many people.
Ella said sincerely. “Sir, we don’t mean any harm. We’re really just passing through. We didn’t know this building was already your territory. We’ll leave right now.”
“Do you think I’ll believe whatever you say? How do I know you’re not scouting the place to steal our supplies?” the man said.
He sneered, and the people behind him nodded in agreement. “Exactly! Bad people never admit they’re bad. Who’s to say they aren’t here on purpose just to scout the place?”
“We’ve been working hard to gather supplies, and then there are people like you who want to get things without effort!”
“She looks young, but she’s pretty cunning!”
“We can’t let them go. What if they’re spies sent by someone else? If we let them leave today, what if they bring others next time?”
The hallway suddenly filled with loud shouting. Dane and Ella both looked upset.
Had these people gone crazy?
They didn’t make any sense at all.
Seeing that it was enough, the man raised his hand.
He seemed to have a high status here. Everyone followed his lead. When he made a move, the excited crowd immediately fell silent. Not a single person spoke.
He sneered, “Grab them! And lock them up!”

Dane’s face changed. “We’re really just passing by! Aren’t you being unreasonable?”
“Unreasonable?”

The man laughed loudly, as if Dane had just said something ridiculous. “Hey, what time do you think it is? Still talking about reason? Go out and ask around who I, Max Burton, am!
“You just came here without permission, and now you think you can just walk out like nothing happened? This is my territory! What do you think this is, a free market? Since you’re here, don’t expect to leave so easily. Otherwise, where would that leave my reputation?”
Dane looked thoughtful.
“Max Burton… That name sounds familiar.”
Ella’s face suddenly changed, and her eyes filled with disgust. “Isn’t he the murderer who raped and killed five girls a month ago and has been wanted ever since?!”
Dane gasped. “It’s him?”
“Yes, it’s him.”
Ella stared at his face, gritting her teeth with hatred. “One of the five girls he killed was my friend’s sister! And…”
She took a deep breath, clenching her teeth in anger. “He seems to have a gun. No one knows where he got it, but even a police officer died by his gun.”
At the mention of a gun, the people behind Max all showed a little fear.
“Hahahaha!”
Instead of feeling ashamed when his crimes were exposed, Max laughed proudly. “Looks like I haven’t wasted my years. My reputation really precedes me now!
