Chapter 328 One Kick Too Far
Kevin, the base commander of Global Base, stepped forward with a smile. “You must be the commander of Vernon Base. Didn’t expect you to be this young”
“Oh. I’m not.”
Jack answered casually, “I’m just in charge of this operation. Our base commander said this mission isn’t worth his time, so I’m handling it.”
That line made things awkward for everyone else.
Vernon Base is this confident, huh?
At the same time, a faint sense of inferiority crept in. This operation really had gathered some serious players.
And it made the rest of them look even smaller.
Several more people stepped out of the black convoy, all dressed in white lab coats, clearly their base uniform.
And those coats said a lot.
After the apocalypse, most people could barely stay fed, let alone worry about appearances.
But these people wore the most noticeable white coats that would stain easily, yet every single one of them was spotless. That alone said everything about their strength.
Of course, it was also
flex.
“Erin, we were wond where you went. Didn’t expect you to end up with this woman.”
Jack lifted his chin. “I’ll give you a chance. Come back now, and we’ll forget everything that happened before.”
Erin’s lips twitched. “No, thanks.”
Jack frowned, clearly not expecting that. “Erin, are you out of your mind?
“Do you even know what you’re saying, or did you not hear me?
“I’m telling you to come back home, and you’re rejecting me?”
Erin nodded. “Yeah. Thanks, Jack, but I don’t need it.”
She wasn’t stupid.
To outsiders, Vernon Base might look perfect. But compared to Shangri–La, it wasn’t even close.

Robin might seem cold, stingy, even petty, but that was only toward outsiders.
In reality, she was insanely strong and Mercely protective of her own.
Erin was sure of one thing: being her enemy would be a nightmare. Being on her team was se people would envy.
As for Vernon Base…
She was a Neel. She knew exactly what kind of people they were.
“Good, good.”
Jack actually laughed from anger. “Erin, you’ve got some nerve. Turning your back on your own people to run with a nobody like her, some stray with no mother. I really dont-
He didn’t get to finish.
Everyone around Robin changed instantly.

Silver arcs of electricity flickered around Dane. Henry’s eyes narrowed dangerously. Dylan adjusted his sleeve, calm on the surface, but a suffocating pressure spread from him. Even Klay’s expression went cold, heat rippling faintly around him.
Even the people from Redwood Military Base turned their heads, tension rising.
Ella didn’t wait. She snapped, “Say that again!”
Before anyone could react, she was already moving. By the time Jack realized what was happening, her foot had already slammed into his chest.
Boom!
Everyone watched as a white figure flew through the air in a clean arc, then crashed hard into one of Vernon Base’s vehicles.
Bang!
The impact dented the metal frame inward.
Jack was pinned against it, his insides churning, his ears ringing.
And out of everyone there, the calmest person was Robin.
She leaned back against the armored vehicle, relaxed, completely unaffected by what he’d said.
“H–how dare you!”
The rest of Vernon Base snapped back to their senses. A string of clicks rang out as black gun swung up and aimed straight at Robin’s group.
