Chapter 343 Guilt Tripping

“With great power eines great responsibility! Ms. Neel, we’ve all seen what you can do. This is exactly the moment that calls for someone like you to step up and break this kind of rule!”
“What rule?”
Robin let out a short, quiet laugh. “If you think it’s unfair, fight for it yourselves instead of pinning all your hopes on someone else.
“If you don’t have the power to change things, two paths lie ahead of you: suck it up, or handle it yourself.
“Trying to maneuver me into this, though… that’s genuinely something.”
Before she could finish, Rolf reached over beside her and gave her sleeve a careful, tentative tug.
Robin turned her head toward him. “Hm?”
Rolf rubbed his hands together and worked a placating smile onto his face. “Ms. Neel, I know you’re a woman of principle, and honestly, you’re right not to let them use you. You don’t owe any of them a thing.”
Robin said nothing. She just watched him in quiet, patient stillness.
And right on cue, Rolf’s tone shifted. “But you and us, that’s different!
“You’ve already joined our base.
“We’re all one with our base…”
Robin’s expression hovered somewhere between a smile and something far more pointed. “Rolf, you’re Tyrant Base’s commander. Shouldn’t you be the one stepping up at a time like this? A small–timer like me has no place to speak up.”
Rolf’s jaw twitched.
Robin’s message today couldn’t have been clearer.
Miss me with that shit.
Jack let a satisfied smile curl at the corner of his mouth. “Looks like she still has some sense of gratitude toward the Neel family. When it counts, she knows which way is up.
“Given how reasonable she’s being, I might even consider letting her into Vernon Base.
“But that kick from yesterday,” he added, his smile cooling, “I’m not letting that go so easily.”
Truth be told, when the others had been working to persuade Robin, a thread of unease had wound itself through Jack’s chest.
He’d watched her fight with his own eyes. No matter how much he resented it, a quiet, grudging wariness had taken root somewhere deep in him.

Chapter 342 Guilt Tripping
It Robin had actually decided to push back, Vernon Base would’ve felt the pressure.
But now….
Finished
The one person who posed any real threat had made it clear she wasn’t getting involved, and that sent his confidence soaring. “Did everyone hear that?
“Any objections left?
“If not, we do this my way. Vernon Base takes 60 percent, and you divide the remaining 40 among yourselves!
“Oh, and I’m a reasonable man. This arrangement only applies to this granary. There’s still one more left, and we can work out the split for that one after we’ve had a look inside.”
Jack had his arrogant streak, but he wasn’t reckless enough to talk without thinking.
Vernon Base was formidable, but they weren’t the only base here. If he pushed every other group past their breaking point, there was no telling what might happen.
Even a cornered animal would bite.
It paid to leave people a way out.
Besides, no one knew yet what the last granary held.
The crowd exchanged uneasy looks.
No matter how they turned it over, picking a direct fight with Vernon Base wasn’t worth the cost, and they swallowed the arrangement down with gritted teeth.
What made it worse was that the only reason any of them could stand safely inside this granary was that strange little girl at Robin’s side keeping things calm.
With her there, the giant spiders hadn’t moved against them.
Without her, not one of them would’ve dared set foot inside.
“Since no one has any objections, we do it this way!” Jack announced, satisfaction radiating off him in
waves.
Everyone set about loading up provisions, their feelings a tangled mix of resignation and poorly concealed
resentment.
But the granary was genuinely massive. Robin had swept a significant portion of it the night before, yet even so, a thorough, relentless search of every corner still turned up a respectable amount.
Jack’s eyes narrowed with sudden suspicion. “Nobody pocketed anything during the search, I hope?”
