Chapter 38 Dilemma
Findsher
They had just survived a bloody battle. Nobody expected Max to point a gun at his own kind at a time like this.
His eyes were bloodshot, his finger pressed on the trigger, his face twisted with madness. “It’s all your fault All of you!”
When he said that, the others with him snapped back to reality. They stared at Robin and the others as if they wanted to tear them apart.
“Yes, it’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
“My girlfriend is dead! You killed her!”
“You bastards ruined our peaceful lives!”
“Kill them! Kill those bitches!”
Anger had completely taken over their minds. They couldn’t think of anything else. The joy of surviving and the sadness of losing loved ones twisted inside their heads, almost driving them crazy.
They needed someone to vent their anger on. And the three on the other side were the perfect targets.
Robin stared at Max’s eyes and asked coldly, “What does that have to do with us?”
Seeing her actually have the nerve to ask that, the others got even angrier. “How is it not your business, murderers?! You’re the murderers!!”
Max gritted his teeth, venom almost in his eyes. “If you hadn’t let the zombies out, none of this would have happened!”
Robin lifted the corner of her lips, but there was no smile in her eyes. “Yes, we accidentally let the zombies out, but didn’t we tell you we’d find a way to lock them back up? It was your obsession and your pressure that caused this mess, wasn’t it?”
Max hesitated, his finger on the trigger slowly tightening. “But you still can’t destroy the whole building!”
Robin’s eyes were full of mockery. “Max, that wall was load–bearing. One punch from you, and the building was bound to collapse sooner or later. We just sped it up. Yes, we let the zombies out, but if you hadn’t been so pushy, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
Her words hit hard. The people next to Max looked at him differently now.
They slowly realized the truth.
That’s right.
Even though these people let the zombies out, they had clearly said they would take responsibility!
It was Max’s reckless obsession that caused everyone to get hurt and die!

“I don’t care! You bitch! It’s all your fault!!”

Hearing her expose his excuses so plainly, Max completely lost control. He went full–on crazy. “If you had agreed to come with me from the start, why would I push you like this? You brought this on yourselves!”
He shook with excitement, holding the gun. Robin, Ella, and Dane were tense, afraid it might go off accidentally.
“Jessica… Jessica!”
His eyes suddenly landed on Jessica, and his whole body jolted. “Fine, I won’t fight with you but you have to bring Jessica over! Jessica, come with me!”
Jessica went pale instantly.
She hugged her daughter tightly, her face full of resistance. “I… won’t!”
Max exploded with rage. “You bitch, not even listening to me! Do you really think those three can protect you? Let’s see whose reflexes are faster–hers or my gun!”
Fear rooted deep in her bones, spreading through her heart. Jessica was shaking all over.
“I’ll give you three seconds!” Max shouted.
He turned the gun toward Dane. “If you don’t come, don’t blame me for being ruthless! They just helped you. Are you going to repay kindness with betrayal?”
That last sentence shattered Jessica’s mental defenses completely.
Her face flickered with struggle and inner conflict, but in the end, despair settled back in.
Of course.
They were strangers she happened to meet. They had already helped her so much. How could she expect them to keep saving her?
“I’d never disobey you! Just wait, I’m coming right now.”
