End Times, Surviving with My Beastly Army novel Chapter 5

After the apocalypse began, animals all over the world started to change. Some grew stronger. Some became faster. Many turned dangerous. Even ordinary farm animals—pigs, cows, chickens, and ducks—could easily kill a normal person. If Robin didn't stock up on enough meat now, there might come a day when the "meat" would start hunting people instead.

Since she needed a huge amount, buying from a regular butcher shop wasn't practical. The butcher simply gave her the number for a slaughterhouse and told her to buy straight from the source.

Robin sent the butcher a 200-dollar tip as thanks. The man's smile stretched from ear to ear.

The slaughterhouse owner happened to be his cousin. By bringing in such a big customer, he would definitely get a reward from his cousin too. He was clearly benefiting from both sides.

Now that he had something to gain, the butcher became even more friendly. He grabbed Robin's arm and said confidently, "Just tell him Sam the Butcher recommended you. He'll give you at least 15 percent off."

"Alright," Robin replied.

She quickly added the slaughterhouse owner on WhatsApp. The slaughterhouse was located in Southvale, not far from the warehouse Wade had arranged for her.

That afternoon, Robin drove over. She ordered 6,600 pounds of pork and 4,400 pounds of beef. The total price was about 230,000 dollars, but after the discount, it dropped to around 197,000 dollars. The owner arranged for everything to be delivered directly to her warehouse.

By the time she returned, the rice and cooking oil she had ordered earlier had already been delivered. The warehouse entrance was now filled with stacks of supplies—pale bags of rice and boxes piled high. The delivery driver stared at the scene and gave a low whistle. "Wow, miss," he said. "Are you planning to open a grocery store? That's a lot of stuff."

Robin gave a small smile. "My company is giving out employee benefits. I'm just in charge of buying everything."

"I see," the driver said, sounding a little envious.

Robin simply smiled and opened the warehouse door, letting the workers carry everything inside. She didn't explain anything else.

But as soon as they left, she immediately moved all the supplies into her storage space.

Robin had learned a hard lesson in her previous life. Only the things firmly under your control are truly safe.

And if you spread kindness everywhere without protecting yourself, it often leads to trouble.

After confirming that everything was accurate, she sent the remaining payment to the slaughterhouse owner.

So far, she had already spent more than 1.3 million. In the past, spending that much money would have made her heart ache. But now she checked her system. Her storage space had expanded to over 14,000 square feet, easily large enough to hold all the supplies. Robin was in high spirits.

Spending money freely actually felt pretty great.

After a long and exhausting day, night had already fallen. Robin's stomach had been rumbling for hours. She stopped at a nearby diner, ate a quick meal, and then headed straight home.

There were still plenty of supplies left to buy. Tomorrow would be busy again.

Early the next morning, Robin was about to head out and continue gathering supplies when her phone suddenly rang.

The caller ID showed the name "Ada."

For a moment, Robin couldn't place the name. She answered the call but stayed silent.

The person on the other end didn't seem to notice. "Robin, why didn't you come to work today?"

Work?

Robin's head went blank.

Right. Ten years ago, she still had a job.

But the apocalypse was coming soon. Who cared about work now?

Before Robin could respond, Ada McBride spoke again in a rush. "Something's wrong with Snowy today! He won't eat, and he's really agitated. When the keeper tried to feed him, Snowy almost bit him. No one can get close. We don't know what to do. Please come quickly!"

Snowy...

Snowy!

A thought suddenly flashed through Robin's mind. "What happened to Snowy?" she asked at once.

Her memory had returned.

Snowy was a white tiger at the zoo, a cross between two breeds. Because of a genetic defect, he had been born with a weak immune system.

When Snowy first arrived at the zoo, he had been gravely ill. He refused to eat or drink and nearly died. Most of the staff had already given up on him. But Robin hadn't. She stayed by his side day and night, taking care of him without rest. In the end, she managed to pull him back from the brink of death.

Since then, the bond between them had been very strong. With Robin's careful care over the years, Snowy gradually grew healthier. Now he had become a strong and impressive adult tiger.

"I understand," Robin said. "I'll be there right away."
