Chapter 76 Stay or Leave

Even with so many people begging her, Robin stayed cold. “I refuse.”

“But…” she added, her tone shifting, “I can give you a chance”

“What kind of chance? Please, tell us!”

Robin spoke slowly. “I’m leaving now because I have something else to do. But in a few days, I should come back. If anyone is still here when I return, you can come with me. Of course, if you want to go to Redwood Military Base, I won’t stop you.”

Her words made everyone hesitate.

They started whispering among themselves.

“So we have to stay here for a few more days?”

“This place isn’t safe anymore. What if more zombies come in the next few days? We’d be dead for sure.”

“I think the base is safer. It’s an official military base. It has to be more reliable.”

“Yeah, I agree.”

“But think about it. In times like this

even a military base can’t take care of everyone. There must be a lot of people there. Do they even have enough supplies We might not get anything.”

“That’s still better than staying here. She didn’t even say exactly when she’ll come back.”

As the argument grew louder, Robin said nothing. To her, this all came down to fate. What she really cared about was Oscar.

“I–I can’t. I have to go with you,” Leland said quickly.

He understood now. No matter where he went, nowhere was safer than staying by Robin’s side.

Robin let out a cold laugh. “Wishful But I already said–either you go to the base with them, or on following me…” She paused, her eyes turning sharp. You’ll you stay here and wait for me. If you end up like that motel owner.”

Leland froze. He instantly remembered the man who had been used as bait and torn apart by zombies, chill ran down his spine.

This woman was not like the others. If he pushed his luck, she really would kill him.

Then, I’ll stay here and wait for you,” Leland said, stepping back, his voice shaky.

Just as Robin and her group were about to leave. Oscar called out to her.

“Of course.”

Robin reached out and gently patted his head. “If you decide to wait for me, then you have to stay safe. Ozzie, remember this–your instincts are right. If you ever feel like zombies are nearby, warn everyone right away.”

Oscar nodded hard. “Okay! I already told my parents. We’re not going to the base. We’ll stay here and wait for you!”

“Good.”

By the afternoon, their group had already made it deep into the city.

Klam had completely fallen. The sky was dark and heavy, like it might start raining at any moment

A faint reddish haze hung in the air. It had only been a month, yet crows had already appeared in the city. perched on branches, letting out harsh, lonely cries. It made everything feel gloomy.

Zombies were everywhere. Before the apocalypse, Klam had been a major city. Now that meant one thing -there were far more zombies here than anywhere else. Driving was no longer an option.

The first problem was the noise. A car was way too loud. Anywhere they drove, it would draw zombies. The second problem was the roads. Cars were packed everywhere, bumper to bumper. There was no way to get through.
