Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 562

The color completely drained from Mr. Greenwood's face. "What did you just say? How is that possible? I thought Emma's parents were a degenerate gambler and a greedy scammer. Doesn't she only have a useless brother?"

"He's her cousin. And Mr. Rossi absolutely dotes on Emma. He treats her like a princess. How... how could Isla do this!" Marvin ran a hand through his hair, completely exasperated.

Mr. Greenwood immediately whirled around to glare at Sebastian's father, his temper flaring again. "You knew, didn't you?! You purposely came here to watch me make a fool of myself!" The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. The Remingtons definitely knew—Sebastian had practically almost married into her family!

Losing face so spectacularly completely stripped Mr. Greenwood of his reason.

He could handle being humiliated, but not in front of his wife, and certainly not in front of a rival!

He was about to blow up and kick them out when Sebastian's mother smoothly intervened. "Oh, come on, Greenwood. We've known each other for decades, are we really going to let a little spat ruin our mood? You and my husband have been taking jabs at each other since you were young. You know his temper! He didn't hide it from you on purpose, he was literally just trying to warn you!"

Mr. Greenwood was still shaking with rage. "Remington, what exactly is your goal here?"

Sebastian's father didn't disappoint his wife, reacting quickly. "I just want to keep our friendship intact. We go way back. The kids had a misunderstanding, and all we need to do is clear the air. We handled things poorly, and we're here to apologize. Name your terms, buddy. We've weathered storms for decades; our friendship is stronger than this, right?"

Mr. Greenwood's expression softened slightly, though he was still annoyed. "Isla is the apple of my eye. She's suffered so much humiliation, and she hasn't even left her room today. It's not about whether I forgive you, it's about Isla. This whole mess will only be resolved when she's happy again!"

"Let the kids handle their own issues," Sebastian's father said. "Sebastian is here. If you trust us, let him go upstairs and talk to Isla."

Mr. Greenwood stayed silent for a long moment, but Mrs. Greenwood finally chimed in, suggesting Sebastian go check on her.
