Tatiana listened as the woman in front of her rambled in a strange, guttural tongue. The phonetics were bizarre–nothing like the local language–yet, inexplicably, she understood every word.
Panic surged through her. She shoved the woman away with all her might. “I don’t know you! Get away from me! Don’t come any closer!”
Caught off guard, Alita stumbled and fell to the floor, her expression completely blank. “What are you saying? I can’t understand you.”
None of the men surrounding them understood her either.
Because Tatiana was speaking in her mother tongue.
Terror gripped her. Looking at their rugged, fierce faces–none of whom looked like law- abiding citizens–her fear reached its breaking point. Seizing a moment of their confusion, she bolted for the exit.
“Boss!!”
Alita leaped up, screaming. “Tati!”
“Don’t just stand there! Catch her!”
Tatiana ran blindly, but she had lost too much blood. Her body was far too weak. Before she could even reach the door, she was caught and hauled back inside.
“Why are you running? What happened to you?”
“Let me go! I don’t know you people! Let go!”
She struggled violently, the terror on her face so stark that even Alita realized something was fundamentally wrong.
One of the men scratched his forehead, muttering in a confused tone, “It’s like she doesn recognize us at all.”

Alita froze. “Doesn’t recognize us? How is that possible… Wait! Could her memory have come back? No, even if it did, she wouldn’t just forget who we are.”
“Should we get her to a hospital? I’ll go scramble some fake IDs.”
“Then hurry up!”

As they whispered among themselves, Tatiana retreated into a corner, her entire body trembling. She had no idea how she ended up in this place. These people seemed to know her intimately, but she had no memory of them whatsoever. What had happened to her life?
She opened her mouth and spoke a language that felt foreign yet came to her with the ease of instinct. “Who are you?”
The moment the words left her lips, they all froze. Tatiana herself was stunned by the sound of her own voice.
“Thank goodness! You’re back to normal!”
The joy on Alita’s face was too genuine to be an act. She truly seemed to mean her no harm. These men looked dangerous, but they hadn’t laid a finger on her.
Tatiana relaxed marginally. “Huh? Are you talking to me?”
“Don’t scare me like this. What’s wrong with you? Have you even forgotten your own name?”
She shook her head. “My name isn’t Tati. I am Tatiana Steele.”
Alita immediately protested, “Have you forgotten? No, this isn’t right. We’re going to the hospital right now!”
Despite the risks of being discovered, they were too worried to care. They forced her into the car and raced toward the nearest medical center.
By chance, Norman saw the whole thing–he was still shadowing them, cursed by his own decision to commit to thirty days of surveillance. Seeing them shove her into a vehicle, he grew suspicious and immediately called Jasper.
When Jasper heard the news, his blood ran cold. He sped to the hospital, finding Norman waiting by the entrance.
“They took her into the emergency wing,” Norman noted.
“Thanks.”
Jasper rushed inside. Norman lagged behind, watching his friend’s frantic pace with a dry click of his tongue. He really has it bad for her.
In the emergency room, the doctor carefully examined the wound on Tatiana’s shoulder. He re–stitched the site and cleaned it, explaining that it wasn’t life–threatening and she just needed
rest.
But the “merchants” weren’t satisfied. They insisted on a full neurological workup.

“Doctor, my friend woke up and she’s not quite right in the head. Please, check her again.”
Intimidated by their fierce appearance, the doctor performed another check, but found no other physical trauma.
Tatiana sat there, her body stiff with tension. Everything was a blur–the signs she couldn’t read, the people with different skin tones. She couldn’t remember how she had arrived in this
country.
Suddenly, a familiar silhouette caught her eye.
Her eyes lit up. lips: “Jasper!”
She scrambled to her feet and sprinted toward him, a cry breaking from her
It was as if she had found a beacon in the dark. She threw herself into his arms without a second thought.
Jasper froze, but his instincts took over. He opened his arms and caught her.
“Thank goodness! I’m so glad to see you!”
He looked down at her, his expression a mask of bewildered shock. “Tati?”
He couldn’t remember the last time he had heard her speak to him with such raw affection.

“What’s with the ‘Tati‘? Why are you calling me that too? My is Tatiana Steele!”
This time, Jasper fell into a profound silence.
Tatiana kept rambling, her words spilling out in a frantic rush. “I woke up and found myself here. Those people keep calling me ‘Sue‘ and saying I’m crazy, but I’m perfectly fine! They forced me to come to the hospital. Thank God I saw you. I was so scared.”
She talked until she realized he hadn’t said a word. She lifted her head cautiously. “Jasper?”
She studied his face for a long moment before a thought slipped out unbidden. “Why do you… look so much older?”
