The traffic jam finally started to clear, but Tammy refused to budge from the front of the car. The driver didn’t dare move, and the cars behind them were blaring their horns incessantly.
Not wanting to make things difficult for the driver, Lucas was forced to yield and let Tammy into the taxi.
The moment she sat down, she squinted her eyes in comfort and let out a long sigh. “I’m so tired. I almost lost you back there.”
“How did you run that far?” Lucas stared at her, his eyes filled with disbelief. How could a human being be that physically capable?
“Where I grew up, there were a lot of dangerous predators. If you couldn’t outrun them, you got eaten. To stay alive, I had to be faster than all of them.” Tammy spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world. In her world, the slow became dirt; only the strong earned the right to speak.
Lucas let out a dry, incredulous laugh. “Stop joking. You must have hitched a ride on someone’s truck to catch up.”
Tammy turned her head and looked him dead in the eye. “Do you want to race and find out?”
“I don’t race women.”
“You!”
“And keep it down,” Lucas interrupted, his tone cold. “This is a civilized society, not your Steele Island. Control those primitive impulses and try to show some restraint.”
Tammy rolled her eyes and muttered defiantly, “I’ve been to Murica with Tati! I’m not a primitive!”
Lucas simply closed his eyes to rest, ignoring her completely. Tammy gritted her teeth in frustration, but she had no choice but to sit in silence.
The car sped along until they reached the Bond Complex. After getting out, Lucas found a high–end hotel and effectively locked Tammy inside a room.
“Stay here. Do not wander off, do you understand? I’ll be back soon.”
“I’m hungry,” Tammy said, patting her stomach.
“Wait until I get back to eat-”
“I’m hungry! I’m hungry! I’m hungry!” she chanted like a broken record.
Resigning himself to his fate, Lucas picked up the room phone and ordered a lavish lunch. When the food arrived, Tammy began to devour it with a lack of grace that made Lucas’s skin crawl. However, noticing the flash of disdain in his eyes, she slowly put down the chicken leg and began to mimic Tatiana, taking small, deliberate bites.

Even so, the sight of her grease–stained face still repulsed the high–born Lucas. The truth was, he had never truly integrated into the islanders‘ way of life; in his mind, only people like Tatiana were worth his time..
I’m leaving. Don’t go anywhere.”
“I’ll be waiting for you!”
Lucas didn’t answer and walked out the door. Tammy watched the closed door, her expression sinking. “I think I messed things up again…”
After leaving the hotel. Lucas didn’t head straight home. Instead, he went to a nearby shopping center. He shed his sea–scented old clothes and changed into a perfectly tailored, brand–new suit.
In an instant, he transformed back into the Lund family’s “Golden Boy“-the eldest son who held a title but no power. He adjusted his tie in the mirror. His face was significantly darker than it had been two years ago, but the practiced, gentle smile in his eyes was more refined than ever. He pushed the mirror aside and stepped out, donning his persona of the warm, polished gentleman once more.
“Master Lucas is back!”
The entire Lund household was thrown into a frenzy the moment he stepped through the door. The servants stared at him as if he were a rare animal. Everyone knew that the eldest son of the Bellwood Lunds had vanished two years ago after being cast out; no one expected him to suddenly reappear today.
John, the second son, hurried downstairs. Seeing Lucas, he offered a hypocritical embrace. “You’ve finally come home.”
A flash of mockery crossed Lucas’s eyes, but he maintained the appearance of brotherly affection. “Yes, John. How has the family been these past two years?”
“Everything is well. We’ve all been worried about you.”
With Lucas’s return, the entire mansion became lively.
Bellwood, a fam us seaside city, possessed half the coastline and numerous harbors. Nearly half of the private docks w re owned by the Lund family. They held a supreme status in the local area, and the name of the Lund Group was a household word. Of course, the family’s convoluted internal affairs were even more of a local obsession than their wealth.
The patriarch, Holton Lund, was a notorious philanderer who had married three times. Lucas’s mother, from the prestigious Lane family, was his first legal wife, but she had died young and had never held Holton’s favor. As a result, Lucas was ignored, stripped of any inheritance rights, and sent away early to study medicine.
John’s mother, Leroy, was Holton’s first love. He had married her the moment his first wife died, making her the current Mrs. Lund. It was clear from his name alone that John was the heir Holton truly valued.
