Chapter 401 The Missing Piece

“Tatiana, I don’t have much time left. I just want to spend whatever days I have left by your
side.”
Tatiana fought back the sting in her nose. “Gran, don’t say that. You’re going to be around for a long, long time.”
That day, she stayed in the room for hours. Kinship is a mysterious thing, even though they had been apart for over twenty years, the pull of blood was undeniable the moment they connected. Her hollow heart finally felt full. In the quiet of the afternoon, she rested her head by her grandmother’s side and drifted into a light sleep.
The old lady gently stroked her hair. “Tatiana, I won’t let anyone hurt you ever again. Not even him.”
After returning from the rehab center, everyone noticed the change in Tatiana’s mood. Even Tammy asked curiously, “Where did you go? Why are you so happy?
Tatiana didn’t hide it. “I went to see my family.”
“Oh my god! You found your family?”
“Yes. I found them.”
It had taken over twenty years, but she finally had them back. She cherished every second of it Because of the reunion, even her headaches seemed to recede. She spent the entire morning in the kitchen, personally brewing soup and preparing a feast.
She left some for Tammy and packed the rest. She then called out to the little ones, “Ann, Hubert, Mommy is taking you somewhere special today.”
“Where are we going, Mommy?”
“It smells so good! Mommy, are you taking this to someone?”
They were incredibly well–behaved; not only did they refrain from sneaking bites, but they also helped her pack everything up.
“Yes. Now go change into your best clothes. I’ll be waiting.”
Ann and Hubert exchanged a look and scurried back to their rooms. Soon, they emerged in their finest outfits. Though the sun had baked them into a pair of bronze adventurers, they were beautiful children.
When they arrived at the center, the old lady had already received word. Knowing Tatiana was

When Ann and Hubert pushed the door open, party poppers went off and colorful streamers rained down from the ceiling. The children stood frozen, mouths agape. “Wow!”
The entire room had been transformed into a scene from a fairy tale. The old lady had even donned a costume, dressing up as the “Grandmother” from Little Red Riding Hood.
This was entirely unexpected. Seeing her grandmother’s outfit, Tatiana tried to stay composed, but she couldn’t help it—a laugh burst out of her.
The old lady looked years younger. She even found the strength to get out of bed and reach out her arms. “Let me hold you, my darlings.”
The two little ones looked at their mother. Seeing her smiling nod, they charged forward with a deafening shout: “Great–grandma!”
The old lady’s heart practically melted. “Oh, I’m here, my sweethearts.”
She pulled them into a tight embrace, treasuring them so much she refused to let go. She had always loved children, but she never imagined that in finding her granddaughter, she would be gifted with two such precious gems.
Tatiana stepped forward with a smile. “Gran, why did you dress up like this?”
“I figured the kids were young and liked stories, so I wanted to make it special.”
Hubert piped up immediately, “Great–grandma looks so cool! I want a costume too! I’ll be Little Red Riding Hood!”
Ann corrected him primly, “Little Red Riding Hood is a girl. You can’t be her.”
Hubert rolled his eyes playfully. “Then Ann can be Little Red Riding Hood, and I’ll be the Hunter! Hahaha!”
The old lady couldn’t stop laughing. “Yes, exactly. I’m the Grandma, she’s Little Red Riding Hood, and you’re the Hunter.”
The once–silent room was now filled with laughter. The children adapted instantly, growing close to her almost immediately. They sat together and happily shared the meal Tatiana had
cooked.
She hadn’t laughed this much in the entire second half of her life. Her spirit was high as she played with the children, until finally, Tatiana saw the signs of fatigue and stepped in.
“Great–grandma is tired and needs to rest. No more rowdiness.”

They flanked her, whispering their goodbyes.
“We’ll come see you again tomorrow!”
“And we’ll bring you more yummy food!”

The old lady nodded repeatedly, her eyes full of reluctance. “Good, good. You must come back, alright?”
