Lindsey gripped her hand tight, her voice thick with urgency. “As long as you don’t find Gran a burden.”
“Never. I want nothing more than to spend as much time with you as possible.”

The years they had lost would have to be reclaimed slowly in the time they had left. Lindsey had assumed she was a liability, and despite her longing to leave the rehab center, she had never voiced it. She hadn’t realized that her granddaughter didn’t just accept her—she wanted her.
Suddenly, Lindsey felt a surge of vitality. She wanted to live; she wanted to stay around for a few more years just to watch over them.
Once Tatiana left the center, she immediately put the task of buying a house on her agenda. Lindsey’s health was too fragile for a long sea voyage back to Steele Island; she needed a period of recuperation on land first. The family couldn’t stay in a hotel forever; they needed a real home.
To find one, she called upon Lucas, the local expert.
“You’re buying a house?”
“Yes. Help me look for something. It needs a good environment and full facilities. Ideally, it should be ready for immediate move–in.” She added a final note: “Price is not an issue.”
Lucas let out a dry laugh. “I’m well aware that price isn’t an issue for you. As it happens, I know of a manor that fits the bill perfectly.”
“Where is it?”
“I’ll come over and take you to see it shortly.”

After hanging up, a smile played on Lucas’s lips–a look of genuine amusement. He wasn’t joking; he knew of a spectacular estate currently on the market. It was perfect in every way, but the asking price was astronomical.
Many wealthy businessmen in Bellwood had their eyes on it, but they were all hesitating, waiting for the price to drop. The Lund family was among them.
Under John’s constant prodding and flattery, Holton Lund had come to believe their current villa was too small, far beneath their status. He felt they needed a grander stage to match their prominence in the city.
Holton wanted this manor, but the listing price was 430 million, and more importantly, the

seller required a lump–sum payment. Pulling nearly half a billion in liquid cash was a staggering feat for any enterprise.

Holton had begun liquidating various assets to cobble together the sum, hoping to use his influence to pressure the seller into lowering the price. Just as he had nearly gathered the funds and reached out to negotiate, he was told the property had already been sold.
“What? Sold? When!”
“I’m sorry, sir. A buyer closed the deal yesterday.”
“Who?”
“The client’s identity is confidential. My apologies.”
Feeling his ego bruised, Holton roared into the phone, “I don’t care! I want that house! If you sell it to someone else, I’ll make sure you never work in this city again!”
The person on the other end was unfazed. “Sir, perhaps you should remember that there is always a higher mountain. There are powers in this world far beyond your own.”
Before Holton could respond, the line went dead. He slammed his phone down in a rage. “Find out! I want to know exactly who bought the Sunny Estate!”
News of the 430–million–dollar cash sale of Sunny Estate sent shockwaves through Bellwood’s elite circles. Everyone began digging for information.
“Who bought it? It required immediate cash–that’s not an easy sum to move.”
“Could it be the Lunds? I heard Holton was selling off assets to make a move.”
“Impossible. If it were the Lunds, they’d be shouting it from the rooftops. Holton doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘discreet“.”
“Then who is it?”
After much prying, the only thing the socialites could discover was that a mysterious outsider had made the purchase. Their background was an enigma, shielded by layers of anonymity. This didn’t stop people from mocking the Lund family for coming up empty–handed.
“Serves them right! They’ve been far too arrogant these past two years.”
“A few days ago, the second Lund son was at a dinner party boasting that they’d already secured it. He was inviting everyone to a housewarming feast. Now look at them–utterly humiliated!”
“I’d
pay to see the look on Holton’s face.”
