Chapter 595 Natural Selection
“Not this one. It’s too stiff, he’ll hate it. The color is hideous… and the quality is trash…
The sales clerk’s face went taut. In all her years, she’d never dealt with a customer this damn picky.
Hubert finished his lap of the floor, still looking unimpressed: “Is this really it?”
Finished
“We actually have two new arrivals we haven’t even unboxed yet. High–tech models fresh in from the States.”
His eyes snapped toward her. “Well? Let’s see ‘em!”
The clerk sighed and headed for the warehouse to haul out the latest inventory.
Left alone, Hubert scrambled onto one of the display chairs and sprawled out. He kicked his chubby legs back and forth with a look of pure, bratty confidence that was honestly too cute for people to ignore. Passersby couldn’t help but smirk.
“Whose kid is this? He’s adorable.”
“I belong to my mommy!” Hubert chirped.
The crowd laughed. “And where’s your mommy then?”
“She’s right here in my heart!”
Total nonsense. He wasn’t giving up a single shred of real info. The kid was as slippery as an eel.
Watching from the shadows, a paparazzo hesitated/Was this really the Hubert from the Jackson family? This kid seemed way too manic.
While Hubert was busy scouting rides on the ground floor, Ann was working her way down from the top.
of hoxes Unlike Hubert, she didn’t have a specific target. Instead she had a vague list and a lot of boxes to check. She went through them one by one, crossing them off with surgical precision.
“Scarf… pass. Jewelry… pass. Books… definitely not.”
By the time she reached the bottom of the page, the whole thing was covered in ink. Even the bodyguards trailing her felt a twinge of pity.
Ann kept moving, looking at the endless rows of luxury goods with a growing sense of defeat. She was hitting a wall. Then, she caught a glimpse of a sign for a pop–up animal exhibit.
Her mood shifted instantly. She spun on her heel and bolted toward the third floor.
The exhibit was a high–end setup. Most of the animals were behind glass, designer cats and dogs with price tags that started at six figures. Wealthy parents were everywhere, hovering over their kids as they looked at the displays.

Chapter 595 Natural Selection
Ann moved from tank to tank, her expression dead serious. She was trying to figure out what would actually work for Gordon
A dog was out of the question, they were too high–energy, and Gordon didn’t have the stamina to keep up. But a cat? Cats were manageable.
Ann leaned against the glass of a cage holding a particularly derpy Persian. The cat started rubbing against the pane, let out a soft meow, and Ann felt a rare spark of interest. She reached for the petting slot at the
top.
Before she could touch it, a hand shoved her hard from the side.
“Keep your hands off my cat!”
Ann hit the floor hard. Her wrist twisted under her weight, sending a sharp jolt of pain up her arm.
The bodyguards nearly had a heart attack. They’d been scanned for threats, but they hadn’t expected an assault from another toddler.
“Ann!”
Ann shook them off, refusing the help as she hauled herself up.

The culprit was a little girl with a bob cut and a look of pure “This is my cat! I bought it! You aren’t allowed to touch it!”
Ann narrowed her eyes. “Apologize.”
“Make me! I’m not apologizing for anything! Blehh!/What are you gonna do, hit me? Go ahead! I’ll tell my daddy you started it!”
Ann didn’t blink. “You’re really not going to apologize?”
“Nope! Try me!”
The next second, Ann lunged. She threw her entire weight into a shove that sent the other girl flying. The brat hit the floor and slid back a good few feet, her ego taking a much harder hit than her backside.
She burst into a frantic, ugly wail. “Waaaaah! She pushed me!”
Ann didn’t give her a second look. She dusted off her hands and turned back to the cat. But the “sweet” Persian had turned; it hissed and caught her finger with a sharp claw.
Ann stared at the red mark on her skin, genuinely confused. She didn’t get why something that looked sa soft could be so mean.
Fine. This wouldn’t work for Great–Grandpa. Too much of a liability. She’d have to find something else. The other girl’s screaming finally brought her uncle running.
“Mandolin! What happened?”
