Chapter 596 The Brat
“You’re the liar! You pushed me!”
“You pushed me first.”
“You tried to steal my cat!”
“Did you even buy it yet?”
“I… I… You’re buying it for me, right? Do it now!”
Liam looked at the cat and shook his head. “No. You’re not getting it.”
It wasn’t about the money. The Langstroms had plenty of cash, but his niece was a nightmare with animals. She’d already gone through a dozen cats, and every single one ended up dead.

She was a spoiled brat who didn’t give a damn about anything living. Liam had tried to fix her attitude before, but the family elders jumped down his throat every time. Now she was six, and she was completely out of control.
“You’re ganging up on me! I’m telling Daddy! I’m telling Grandpa!”
Ann didn’t miss a beat. “Only cowards run to their parents. Can you do anything else?”
“I hate you!”
Mandolin lunged, claws out, aiming right for Ann’s face.
“Mandolin, stop!”
Ann wasn’t about to just stand there. She stepped out of the way, and Mandolin’s momentum sent her flying straight into the glass display.
The impact made a heavy, dull sound.
“Ow! My head!”
“Mandolin!”
Liam grabbed her and pulled her up, only to see her forehead gushing blood. She’d split it wide open. She started screaming like she was being murdered. “I’m bleeding! I’m gonna die! I’m dying!” “Shut up, you’re not dying. I’m taking you to the hospital.”
He scooped her up and bolted, but he caught Ann’s eye on the way out. She didn’t look guilty at all. She just stared him down, stone–faced, Liam didn’t have time to process it; he had to get the kid to an ER.
The whole drive was a nightmare of non–stop screeching. Liam took a breath, already dreading the hell he’d catch from the rest of the family.

Ann didn’t give a shit about what just happened. She was supposed to meet her mom, so she figured she’d head back and finish shopping tomorrow. But on her way out, something in the back of the exhibit caught her eye. She finally smiled.
Down at the cafe, Tatiana checked her watch. Almost time.
Hubert was already there, killing a carton of milk He’d already had his gift crated and shipped off. It was in a massive box, and he wouldn’t tell Tatiana a thing about what was inside.
“Mommy!” Ann called out, looking happy.
Tatiana smiled. “Did you find something?”
“Yeah! Great–Grandpa’s gonna love it.”
“What is it?”
“Secret. You’ll see at the party.”
She sounded exactly like Hubert. The two kids looked at each other, both looking smug as hell about their choices.
“Alright then. You hungry?”
“Starving!”
“Let’s go eat.”
She took them by the hands and walked out of the/mall.
Back at the Langstrom house, things were exploding.
The family was small, and Mandolin was the only girl in her generation. They treated her like she was
r made of gold.
Even though Liam told them she ran into the glass herself, nobody believed him. His cousin actually said, “So what if she was just standing there? The other girl should have let her hit her. Who the hell moves out of the way? That kid is a little psycho.”
Liam just sat there with a headache. He was done trying to raise that kid. She was a lost cause.
The Langstroms were big players in Dalliston, so they started digging. They pulled the mall security footage to find the girl who hurt Mandolin.
But Ann had her mask on the whole time. Plus, she’d somehow managed to stay in the camera’s blind spots for half the trip. The trail went cold,
It didn’t take long for the news to hit Tatiana’s desk.
