Arden stood tall in front of him, her expression calm, but her eyes were cold. Dorian hated that.
He preferred the way she used to look at him–eyes soft, full of love, shy, and sweet.
She stepped closer, caught the scent of alcohol on him, and wrinkled her nose. Then she took a step back.
Dorian reached out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her toward him. His voice was lazy, tinged with a drunken slur. “Why are you backing away?”
“You’re drunk.”
She was so close now, nearly pressed against him. He didn’t let go of her wrist. His fingers moved slowly across her skin. “Yeah. I’m drunk. So you hold me.”

She tried to pull her hand back, but he tightened his grip. “Let go. I’ll call Lucien. big for me to carry.”
“No need. He’s waiting by the car. I want you to help me.
Without waiting for a reply, he threw an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close. She frowned. “Hey, you’re heavy.”
He stood a good six–foot–three. Even with her low heels on, Arden barely hit five–seven.
She had zero interest in babysitting a drunk man.
“I’m not leaning all my weight. Just walk.”
His right arm hung over her shoulder, and with his left hand, he grabbed her purse. “Let’s go, yeah?”
She looked up at him. His cheeks were flushed. His eyes were red at the corners. Even his ears were pink.
Maybe… he wasn’t that heavy.
She shot him a glare. “Serves you right for drinking so much.”
Dorian leaned closer, lips brushing her ear. “I’m drunk. Don’t you feel bad for me?”
“Nope. You deserve it.”
His breath tickled her ear. She was sure he was doing this on purpose.
From across the room, Ares stepped out and caught the scene. Arden looked irritated, pouting at Dorian. Meanwhile, Dorian–who usually wouldn’t let women get within three feet–was leaning on her like he belonged there.
Ares raised an eyebrow, amused. So this was his game. Get drunk so she’d have to take care of him?
“Need me to send someone with you?” Ares asked, trying not to laugh.
Dorian shot him a warning glare.
Arden jumped at the suggestion. “Yes, please.”

“No.” That came from Dorian.
Arden elbowed him. “Why not? You’re clearly trying to wear me out.”
“I want you. You’re my assistant. Boss gets drunk, assistant helps. That’s how it works.”
“Remember the year–end bonuses,” Dorian added. “Do a good job.”
Arden gave him another glare and stomped on his foot. He didn’t flinch. In fact, he smirked.

Ares watched Dorian’s expression, how he stared at Arden like he wanted to devour her. That deep, possessive hunger. He figured he should let his friend have this moment.
“Take good care of him, Arden. Thanks,” Ares said.
She gave a polite smile and said nothing. Dorian was satisfied. Finally, she was close again. From the corner, Ruby spotted Ares and lit up. “Ares.”
He dropped his laid–back demeanor instantly. “What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to see you.”
He didn’t respond, just walked past her and back inside.
Outside, Arden finally made it to the car with Dorian. Lucien had the door open but didn’t move to help. She pushed Dorian into the backseat and climbed in behind him, panting.
Lucien reminded from the front, “Mrs. Vale, he hasn’t buckled up.”
Arden rolled her eyes. “Buckle your seatbelt.”
Dorian didn’t move.
“Mr. Vale?” Lucien glanced at his boss in the mirror. His face and neck were flushed. Yeah, he was definitely out of it. “Maybe… you should help him,” he suggested carefully.
Arden had had enough. She kicked him. “Dorian. Buckle up.”
Still no reaction.
