Chapter 234 Still Family
Finished
The Wynns had let go of their former drivers and house staff. Most of their cars had been sold too–only one was left, mainly for Caleb to commute.
“I’ll go with you,” Caleb said.
He knew she’d run into Dorian there. She shouldn’t go alone.
“Okay,”
Arden wasn’t exactly a confident driver yet. Gareth reminded them, “Bring a gift.”
“Got it, Dad.”
The siblings got in the car. They made a stop in the city to buy gifts, then headed straight for the Vale
estate,
Just as they pulled up, Dorian’s Maybach arrived too.
Arden stepped out of the car and looked up–Dorian was already getting out of his own vehicle. He glanced in their direction.
He had that effortlessly commanding presence–broad shoulders, clean lines, and a face carved to catch attention. Even when he said nothing, he owned the space.
Arden straightened unconsciously. Her voice was polite but distant. “Mr. Vale.”
He nodded. “Mm.”
“We came to check on Grandma.”
“Mm.”
He walked right past her into the villa without pausing.
Arden didn’t look back. Her gaze followed his silhouette for a moment, but there was no flicker in her eyes. She followed Caleb inside.
Eugenia was awake now. When Theresa and Celine saw Dorian and Arden enter the room together, they couldn’t help but hope–maybe this was all a misunderstanding. Maybe the divorce wasn’t real.
Arden stepped forward. “Grandma.”
Caleb nodded respectfully. “Mrs. Vale.”
Eugenia gave him a soft nod. “Sorry to trouble you.”
“You didn’t,” Caleb said. “Please don’t say that.”
Eugenia reached for Arden. “Come here, sweetheart.”
But when she spotted Dorian, she snorted and turned her face away.

Dorian didn’t care. He sat beside her bed and tugged the blanket up gently. “You’re too old to be throwing
tantrums.”
“I’m old, so I can’t get angry when you act like a jackass?”
“If you collapse from rage, who’s really losing here?”
“You wouldn’t even need to worry about me if you hadn’t divorced Arden.”
“It’s already done, Grandma. Let it go.”
“Ingrate.”
“Sure, go ahead and scold me. As long as you’ve got the energy to insult people, your health must be just fine.” Arden watched the two bicker, unsure if she should laugh or cry.
Theresa cut in, “Dorian, that’s enough.”
Celine chimed in too. “You seriously think you can act smug after divorcing her?”
Dorian shot them both a look. They shut up immediately. “I’m the one who got divorced. Why are you two freaking out?”
Celine rolled her eyes. “Of course. No one can stop you. No matter how good the woman, eventually she’d walk away from a guy like you.”
“Celine, watch it. One more word and I’m cutting your allowance.”
She zipped her mouth. Eugenia waved everyone else out of the room. Only Dorian and Arden were left.
She turned to Dorian, trying to keep her voice calm. “Tell me the truth. Why did you divorce Arden?”
Before he could speak, Arden cut in quickly, noticing her rising emotion. “It was my idea. You know I was the one who pressured him into marrying me. Mr. Vale never liked my type. That’s why he kept our marriage hidden. I’m the one who wanted out. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life tied to someone who doesn’t love me.”
“But the Wynns-”
Afraid she’d bring up the truth behind the marriage, Arden quickly interrupted, “Grandma, have some
water.”
Dorian stood silent through it all, listening, offering no response.
Eugenia scowled. “You, get out. I want to speak to Arden alone.”
He looked at Arden briefly. She didn’t meet his gaze.
