“Hey, what’s the rush? Just keep following that pregnant woman. She’s Dorian’s girl, and she’s knocked up. If we grab her later, that’s two hostages in one. Even better, right?”
“Oh, yeah, good point.”
As the woman walked farther away, Colton looked at the man beside him, still dripping coffee on both his shirt and his face.
He called out quietly, “Boss.”
That six–month–pregnant woman–was Colton.
He had bought a long wig, put on makeup, and honestly? He looked the part. Dorian’s gaze followed Arden as she walked into the distance. His eyes had gone cold, dark–like a storm about to break.
Colton called again, “Boss.”
“Yeah.”
“Want to hit the restroom and clean up? I can get Lucien to bring you a clean outfit.”
“No need. Sevra’s people are watching from the corner. They’ll probably come check on you. Keep the act convincing. Be in Soutaria on time tomorrow.”
“Arden,” Celine called softly as they exited the café.
“Hm?”
Arden turned her head. Her expression was calm, everything tucked away neatly–except for that faint redness still clinging to the corners of her eyes.
“You okay?”
She smiled. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Why were you out with Dorian?”
“You mad I came with him? He was out of line. And just so you know, I’m never accepting that woman or the baby she’s carrying.”
“We’re already divorced. He can have a baby with whoever he wants. It has nothing to do with me.”

Celine clenched her jaw. “But he cheated. You saw how pregnant she was–she’s got to be at least six months in. He’s only been back from abroad for, what, half a year?”
Arden’s voice stayed neutral. “He didn’t want the marriage to begin with. We signed a prenup. We agreed not to interfere in each other’s lives–especially not emotionally.”
“But still-”

Arden gently tapped her arm. “Come on. I’m not mad anymore. You don’t need to be mad for me either. Let’s go grab dinner. My treat.”
“You’re really not mad?”
She shook her head. “Nope.”
After dinner, Arden went straight home.
She showered first, then curled up on her bed, headphones in, music playing. She pulled out her phone, intending to delete Dorian’s number for good.
A notification popped up. “Dorian sent you 100000 dollars.”
No message. No context. Just the money.
She messaged Caleb, “Hey, how much did you transfer Dorian yesterday for the groceries?”
Caleb replied, “Ten grand.”
She immediately sent the 100000 dollars back. “That money was from Caleb. If you didn’t want it, return it to him, not me. Also, you added an extra zero.”
Then she blocked Dorian on every platform–phone, WhatsApp, everything.
There was no reason to keep in touch anymore.
It wasn’t late yet. She got up and rearranged the lilies and blue roses in the vase in her living room, took a picture, and casually posted it to her feed.
She listened to a few more songs and soon fell into a deep sleep. That night, she slept soundly.
On Sunday, she visited her family. Elise insisted she stay the night, so Arden agreed. The next morning, Elise got up early to cook and packed her lunch for work.
After that day, Arden never saw Dorian again at the company.
Warren told everyone that Dorian had gone on a long business trip, no clear return date. It might be six months, maybe even two or three years.
Arden didn’t care anymore. To her, Dorian was nothing but a chapter that had closed. She figured they would never cross paths again.
She threw herself into work, assisting Sienna on major projects. She quickly got familiar with the process.
Without the obligations of the Vale family hanging over her, she was completely free. And with that freedom, her career took off.
She traveled for work, met clients, negotiated deals. She went from a clueless newbie to a confident, sharp professional.
Bonnie still made things difficult from time to time, but Arden could fire back without flinching now. She wasn’t the girl who kept her head down anymore.
