Kade brought over a bowl of hot chicken broth. Dorian raised a hand. “Phone first.”

Colton tensed. “Boss, just eat a little. You can’t push-”

Dorian cut him a sharp look. “I’m fine.”

“Phone.”

Colton handed it over. Dorian unlocked it, opened Arden’s chat, typed again, “Merry Christmas.”

A red exclamation mark popped up. Message failed to send.

He stared at the icon. Then backed out.

Right. He’d already tried last night. She’d blocked him.

He opened the group chat. A bunch of messages @-ed him, most wishing him Merry Christmas.

Others teased him about not coming back to Avalen, said they’d saved gift cards for the baby. Asked if it was a boy or girl.

They tagged Ares too. Neither of them had replied.

Five days ago, he and Ares had gone into the mountains tracking Sevra, constantly being hunted. It wasn’t until last night that Kade had found them.

He scrolled to his feed. First thing he saw was Caleb’s post. Plenty of likes and comments.

Cassian commented, “Caleb, our girl Arden is looking better than ever.”

Theo chimed in, “Your family’s got serious holiday vibes.”

Damon teased, “Someone asked me for Arden’s contact info. Should I send it?”

Barry added, “Thumbs up.”

Ruby laughed, “Caleb, I want to spend Christmas at your place with Arden.”

Isla joined in, “I’m showing up for dinner.”

Celine asked, “Wait, Arden can cook like that?”

Lucien quietly gave it a like. Dorian zoomed in on every photo, saved them all. After a pause, he tapped the like button himself.

When he refreshed, new comments appeared tagging him.

Cassian fired back, “Dorian, excuse me? You hit like?”

Theo followed up. “Tsk. Is someone catching feelings again watching Arden glow without you?”

Damon threw in, “Hey, does anyone have a pic of the woman who’s supposedly carrying his baby?”

Ruby snapped, “Really, Damon? Christmas day, and this is what you say?”

Isla mocked, “Damon, bro, you need to be banned from this chat.”

Celine dropped in, “I’ve seen her. She’s huge. Tall, broad, built.”

Dorian read through the messages silently. Then closed the app. He took the bowl from Colton and drank the broth. Then laid down again. “Let me know the moment Ares is stable.”

“Got it.”

“When will you know?”

“Tonight.”

Dorian closed his eyes again and slept. At 8 p.m., Kade came to the room. “Boss, Mr. Sinclair’s surgery went well. He’s stable now.”

“Good. Get the jet ready. We fly back to Avalen on the 26th.”

Kade blurted out, “But Boss, your injuries are serious. Five days isn’t enough to-”

Dorian gave him a single look. Kade shut up.

“I said we’re going.”

Colton clamped a hand over Kade’s mouth. No doubt, Dorian’s desperate to see Arden.

Last time, Colton had disguised himself as a pregnant woman–claiming to be carrying Dorian’s child. Arden had dumped a cup of coffee on Dorian’s chest with a look of pure disgust.

But the trap worked. Sevra and Martin’s people took the bait.

That same night, they’d set a trap to capture the “pregnant woman.”

Dorian had planned it all. If he hadn’t, Arden might’ve walked right into it.

After that, Sevra and Martin’s men had backed off. Arden was now safer than anyone.

Her ties to the Vale family? Just because her brother Caleb was close with Dorian. And because she was friends with Celine.
