Chapter 259 Midnight Return
“What’s with the noise?”
Finished
Even pale, Dorian still radiated a cold, steely force. The pressure around him was sharp and heavy. “Ares just woke up. Keep it down.”
Ares looked over. “I’m flying back with you.”
Every Christmas, Ruby used to send him a message. Not this year.
And he couldn’t see her Instagram anymore. She’d blocked him.
Now that everything was over, he could go back. If not, with how many people were after Ruby, he’d be dead last in line.
Felix stared at the man who’d barely made it off the operating table and still wanted to fly, then snapped, “Are you out of your mind? You almost died. Waiting a couple of weeks to heal isn’t going to ruin your life.”
“No.”
“No.”
Ares and Dorian answered at the same time.
Felix froze. “What the hell’s so urgent in Avalen you both need to rush back?”
“There is.”
“Yep.”
They answered separately this time.
“Fine. You’re both grown men. Whatever happens, that’s on you.”
Felix knew their personalities. Once these two made a decision, nothing could pull them back.
“Everyone out,” Dorian said.
The room cleared. Dorian looked at Ares. “Seriously, you feel okay? You’ll be able to sit on a plane in five days?”
“If you can sit, why can’t I?” Ares countered. “You’re not in much better shape than I am.”
Ares paused, then asked, “Sevra’s really dead?”
“He fell off the cliff. You know how high it is. And what’s underneath. Even if the fall didn’t kill him, the gators would have torn him apart.”
“Alright.”
“Still, to be safe, I had Boey send people to look for the body. Seeing it with our own eyes would put it to

rest.”
Ares nodded. Five days later, Dorian and Ares boarded the same private jet, heading for Avalen.
They landed right at midnight. Dorian returned to Silverbay Villa.
Ares went back to his own place in Avalen.
Ruby had moved to Avalen to push her career forward and force herself to forget Ares. She wasn’t in Eloria anymore.
Lucien had called Martha ahead of time, asking her to prepare supplements and a latenight meal.
Martha was happy, but she asked cautiously, “Should I prepare something for a child too? Or warm a bottle? I still have formula at home. Is Mr. Vale coming back alone? Or is he bringing… a wife? Should I prepare food for one person or two?”
Lucien was stunned. “Mr. Vale came back alone. He and Mrs. Vale are divorced. Where would a child come from?”
Dorian leaned against the window, watching the dark, quiet streets outside.
After hearing Lucien’s words, he said flatly, “Tell Martha to prepare one meal. No baby items. No formula.
“Oh. Got it.”
That’s when Lucien finally realized.
Before going overseas, his boss had Colton pretend to be a pregnant woman just to rile up Arden.
Now the entire Vale household–including Martha–probably thought he was out there living the picture- perfect life with a wife and baby.
He quickly called Martha to clarify.
After the call, Lucien asked, “Sir, are we heading straight to Silverbay Villa now?”
“Swing by Cloudwind Court.”
Lucien checked his watch. Midnight. It would take nearly an hour to get there. By then it’d be close to one.
Mrs. Vale’s definitely asleep.
But seeing Dorian leaning back in the backseat with his eyes shut, Lucien didn’t say another word.
He started the car.
When they arrived at Cloudwind Court, Dorian lowered the window and looked up.
The entire complex was dark. The lights in Arden’s apartment–the living room and the bedroom on the
sixth floor–were all off.
She was probably asleep.

He looked up for a long while before finally saying, “Let’s go. Back to Silverbay Villa.”
They arrived at nearly 2 a.m.
Martha was still awake. When she saw Dorian walk in, she glanced behind him instinctively.
Seeing no one else, she didn’t ask.
As Dorian walked closer, Martha jumped. “Mr. Vale, your face… Why do you look so pale? You’ve lost so much weight.”
“Mm.”
Dorian rolled up his sleeves as he stepped into the house. If you looked closely, you’d notice he was walking with a slight hunch.
“Sir, even if work’s overwhelming, you still need to take care of your health.”
“Alright, Martha. You can rest now.”
Once she finished setting everything up, Martha went downstairs. Dorian ate a bit, then returned to his room. It looked exactly like it did before he left. There wasn’t a single trace of Arden.
Before Lucien left, he asked, “Boss, are you going to the company tomorrow?”
“Yes.”
“But your condition…”
“Pick me up at one in the afternoon.”
“Understood.” Lucien left. Because of the wound on his abdomen, Dorian couldn’t shower.
He took out a cigarette, then remembered what Felix had told him. He put it back
He walked out to the balcony and stood there for a while before returning to the bedroom. The sheets no longer carried any trace of Arden’s scent. Lying in bed, Dorian couldn’t fall asleep.
It was the first Monday after the holidays. To kick off the year on the right foot, the company offered a little incentive–anyone who showed up on time got a small bonus. Wanting to start strong, Arden made sure she got there early.
